I will repeat that I think FEDEX should teach their drivers not to engage with people in this kind of scenario. Frankly it’s unprofessional and the guy hadn’t started yelling racist stuff until the driver stopped to talk to him. Shoot, when people yell at me to slow down I just give them the bird and keep on driving.
FedEx's only marketable feature is being a hair faster USPS and UPS. Since all three use the same technology and manpower, cheating traffic laws is the only edge that keeps FedEx in competition. FedEx not only has a company-wide requirement that their drivers violate speed and safety rules in order to complete their assigned routes every day, they back up their drivers without exception when fielding customer complaints. The drivers are hired for their aggressive behavior, and they will certainly display it if you ever challenge their right to drive dangerously. Driver initiated threat by endangering man's neighborhood. Man verbally defended his neighborhood by telling the driver to cease his threat. Driver escalated threat by exiting vehicle and arguing with man, despite being in the wrong. Man raised hand in defense as driver came at him. Driver hits man, killing him. Dominos used to do this, people died, courts got involved, and Dominos "remodeled their 30 minute delivery guarantee. 30 MINUTES OR FREE PIZZA Terms & Conditions Orders of 4 or more pizzas qualify as bulk orders, not valid for service guarantee of less than 30 minutes or free. Maximum Domino's liability is Rs. 300. Delivery guarantee applicable at the first barrier point. Domino's does not penalize its drivers for late delivery. 30 minutes or free not applicable when store operating conditions or not suitable , to be announced at the time of order taking. Dominos Pizzas preserves the right to withdraw the service guarantee without prior information. 30 minutes delivery guarantee not applicable on New years eve,on Ganesh festival , Christmas and Durga Pooja , the service guarantee may be withdrawn temporarily in view of difficult operating conditions for delivery. Conditions apply.
Prosecutors and police pieced together events using accounts from six eyewitnesses, three of whom saw the entire incident. The announcement by the prosecutor's office was the first public mention of Mr Magnuson's death and the ensuing investigation, the Oregonian newspaper reported. It was unclear why prosecutors had only recently released information about the incident. It is also unclear whether Mr Warren still works for FedEx. The company declined to comment on his status. Looks like the DA hid this from the public in order to give FedEx time to buy witness "cooperation" between all parties, and iron out any grievances with the man's relatives if any exist.
Decorum in the Forum. Yeah, no. Nothing could be more boring, although it does rhyme. Maybe barfo can write us a song about it.
I'd love to hear your reasoning for him to exit the safety of his vehicle if it wasn't to escalate the situation, which he obviously did.
It says in the article. He got out to talk to the guy. To explain he was tired and trying to finish his shift. The guy wouldn't listen to reason. He kept yelling racial slurs and threw the first punch.
That's not reason. Gets out and says "my bad I didn't realize how fast I was going" calms the situation IF you feel the need to get out in the first place. But he gets out and basically makes a lame excuse and it pissed the other guy off more. Next time you're on a road trip and have to go to the bathroom tell the cop that's why you were going 130mph. Won't work. The driver may be a total dick wanting to fight...if he didn't break the law you don't charge him. Playing if only he hadn't done so and so is a slippery slope. That said, if the white guy calling him n something had taunted him into throwing a punch and he killed the black guy I'd expect the same decision.
It doesn't calm the situation if the other guy is a raging racist. The driver apoligized and the other guy kept yelling racial slurs. He threw a punch. So the driver defended himself. The guys death is on himself. You can't fix stupid.
Fake News. The article makes it clear the driver never offered any apology of any sort, instead basically said "I'm privileged so don't piss me off". Had the man been black the driver would not have even stopped. Who's the racist here?
Without video to prove anything it is just as likely the white guy didn't go ballistic racist mose until the lame excuse was given.
There are six, only three who supposedly say he threw a punch. The Root, a mag for blacks, says there were 3 witnesses who say he threw a drink at him, nothing about anyone seeing him throw a punch. The man was living in a van, has nobody to step up for an investigation, and FedEx bought a rubber stamp.
I'd lay the blame at the company that motivates them to break traffic rules. I had a college friend who told me how they would use high pressure to get drivers to load, drive and unload fast. I get a lot of packages from the VA pharmacy from Fed Ex, UPS and the US Mail Service. Only the U.Sl Mail Service rings my doorbell when they deliver a package. And even though I get time sensitive medications from UPS and Fed Ex, they never ring my door bell. I've even had packages returned to a warehouse and eventually to the sender because they never rang my door bell and I didn't know to sign some packages that required a signature. That's happened a few times. They don't speed in my neighborhood for two reasons. 1. I'm in Lake Oswego and the police are pretty good at catching speeders; 2. I'm right across from a high school where the police are even more vigilant. Anyhow, this kind of problem originates at the top.
