Theres not an article I can find about it, but on the news(its a new news report) its reported that Penny Hardaway has said hes wanted to play for the Grizzlies for 6 years now, and money isnt an object and he just wants to be a leader. For those who dont know, Penny Hardaway is like the messiah of Memphis Basketball. People LOVE him in Memphis. Yeah he had the horrific injury that screwed his career, but he can bring alot to Memphis. Leadership, experience, and most important of all, fans. If we signed Penny Hardaway, so many Memphis St. fans(old school Memphis fans) would come to watch him sit on the bench. Huge publicity stunt in Memphis. And to see him begin and retire with Memphis across his chest would be awesome. I hope we sign him, I dont care if we even play him, I just want to see him back in the blue.
The Grizzlies are a mess. I don't understand why they would sign a guy who can't barely even run to a contract to be a non-useable leader of a team that is in some depserate help of reshaping. How about using him as a coach?
First off, the Grizzlies organization has said nothing about this. Memphis isnt a mess, everything is straightened out now.Did you not read my post? We have the money to sign him to a small deal that would barely change any of our cap. It would be a publicity stunt. Memphis Tiger fans are everywhere, if we sign him, it would bring some Tiger fans to the Grizzlies game and expose them to our team. And for alotve die hard memphis fans like me, this would be incredible to just see him go out like this.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Memphis isnt a mess, everything is straightened out now.</div>How is that may I ask? Chucky Atkins/Damon Stoudamire/Dahntay Jones front court duo has done wonders man...Are you kidding, the Grizzlies are a total mess. Greg Oden will be huge for your orginzation but you're kidding yourself if you think the Grizzlies are "straightened out". Gasol doesn't even want to play for the Grizzleis anymore either.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Did you not read my post? I just think it's a bid idiotic. You want your team to pull a publicity stunt to boost your team's popularity? That seems a bit pathetic if you ask me. Memphis Tigers fans would show up and go wow, Penny Hardaway is sitting on the bench, who hooo! I just think it's a retarted idea. You never answered my quesiton about him possibly becoming an assistant coach and building up his coaching skill to maybe coach the Grizz one day. I think that would be a more realistic and sane idea.

First off, thats not our frontcourt. Our front court consists of Stoudamire/Atkins, but also Mike Miller, Tarence Kinsey, Kyle Lowry, and occasionaly Rudy Gay plays guard for us. Not to mention our cap this summer will most certainly go towards a PG. And Gasol wanted to leave cause he felt the organization wasnt moving forward. Hes now come back and said he see the direction of the team and when we get hopefully a big name free agent, Marc Iavaroni or Larry Brown and a high draft pick, we will defiently be moving into a good direction. The team is taken off the market. Our organization is still fine and good. ]And you have no clue how huge Penny Hardaway is in Memphis, a small minimum salary for a year wouldnt hurt at all. And the Grizzlies havent even said anything about it, so right now hes probably not going to get signed. I havent heard anything about him being a coach...but signing him would be good. You forget that if not for Gasols injury, we wouldve probably been a playoff team, so call us a mess all you want, we are still a good team and will probably get back to a 45+win season next year.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Lucy, you got a lot of 'splaning to do...</div>hahaBelieve me, I want Oden wearing green I was just implying chances are they could get Oden next year and that will clearly help the Grizzlies stock rise. It will be like LeBron entering in Cleveland. The city will suddenly fall in love with basketball.I dunno austingriz, apparently I don't know how big Penny Hardaway is in Memphis. I just don't think he would make this huge locker room impact. We both don't agree with each other. Plain and simple.
