No, I agree that it's too complicated. Simpler is better in my opinion.

It's not that complicated at all, and it's literally the most balanced system I can come up with.

Heres the problem with simple: If someone picks up a Kareem Hunt or Alvin Kamara off the waiver wire like was the case last year, or draft a late round gem, they'll be stacked for year(s) since they will lose an absolutely meaningless pick to keep them.. If you have any methods to solve that, I'm all ears.

I get your point and the premise is fine. In fact, I like it. I just don't think it was written very clearly.

Well for one we could limit the amount of years you get to keep a player for one or two years. Or we could say you get to keep said player for good value one year and then any player kept more than one year automatically becomes a 1st round pick the 2nd time you keep him. That way it rewards people for making good moves but also doesn't hurt the rest of the league for more than one year.

I'm telling you though if we have a keeper system set up it changes the way people draft and add/drop. Rookies like Hunt and Kamara would be drafted higher and never dropped. In fact if someone dropped Hunt last year or he went undrafted that is hard to believe but you'd have no one to blame but yourself for not getting him.

Okay, what about James Connor this year? Just saying, it too heavily rewards getting good players outside of the first few rounds.

What if you based the pick being forfeited for keeping a player on prior year position value rather than how/where he was picked up? ie, top 5 at a position is a 1st round pick, 6-10 is 2nd, 11-15 is 3rd, etc...? Maybe a different scale for TE's...

But going into the draft most people thought this would be Bell's last year in Pittsburgh right? If it was a Keeper League and you stashed Conner on your roster hoping he would become Pittsburgh's starting RB next year then you should be rewarded for that in my opinion. Sure, you'd be lucky that Bell didn't even come back this year.

Isn't that more like real life? The Saints don't get stripped a draft pick because they drafted Kamara in the 3rd round. I think it makes every move and draft pick more important because you have to think of the consequences.

To me (JUST MY OPINION), that takes a lot of the strategy out of it as an owner. It also would be hard to account for players who missed games because of injury/suspensions versus guys who weren't as good but played all 16 games.

For the injury/suspension guys issue, you could base it off average per game production rather than total.

As to the strategy, you're probably right. I have no idea. I don't really do fantasy, and I've never done a keeper league. I dunno, maybe shift it so that only the best player at a position costs a first round pick, and then shift everything else down a round? I really have no idea, I'm just spit-balling here.

In the Keeper League I'm in it's an auction draft so it's completely different. There is a two round rookie draft before the auction and you keep 4 players. You get to keep players one time and then after the 2nd year you sign them to a 1 year extension for $5 dollars more than you had him at, 2 year extension for $10 more than you had him at, or a 3 year extension for $15 more than you had them at. So the most you could keep a player is 5 years (Thank god this was year 6 for Le'Veon Bell). So whatever the rookie draft order is would be the order people get to call out a name and you have $200 to fill a team.

This year I got Mahomes for $1 so I get to keep him for $1 next year and then can sign him for 3 more years and he'd be $16 for years 3, 4, and 5 of having him. I did that with Jordy Nelson the year he tore his ACL too. It's a fun wrinkle to be thinking about future years while also trying to win this year.

I think I like a more traditional draft better though. It's also hard to do an auction because everyone has to be there or it screws it all up.

I like your input since you aren't part of the league and don't have any motives behind your suggestions.

In my other ESPN league with my friends, we have 2 keepers. The rules are a little too complicated for me, but the other guys like it. Rules are below.
    You keep 2 players.
You cant keep the same player more than 2 years in a row.
Only players drafted after the first 3 rounds the previous year are eligible to be keepers. Technically its guys drafted in rounds 3-5 that cant be keepers, because rounds 1 & 2 are the keepers in the draft recap.

    http://games.espn.com/ffl/resources/help/faq?name=how-do-playoff-tiebreakers-work

    * When Head-to-Head record is selected as the tiebreak criteria, and in the event that three or more teams have the same winning percentage at the end of the regular season, these teams must have played the same number of games for it to be used.

@BonesJones When reading the FAQ from ESPN on tie breakers, it appears since you three haven't played the same amount of games against each other, head to head is not being used, it must revert back to total points.

If you keep reading the example, it confirms that it reverts to points for if 3 or more teams are tied and they didn't play the same number of games against each other. So that is what's happening in the current situation.

See, that's absolutely ridiculous IMO. You'll have the upper-hand for years to come...

I've never done a keeper league, but am all for it. With that said, I don't really have an educated opinion on the best way to move forward. I do think you should be rewarded/not punished that much if you draft a really good player late in the draft. I think you should be rewarded just like good QBs on rookie contracts in the NFL.

In fairness--if you just looked at 3-way head to head, you are basically being rewarded for getting a second game against Perez (I'm assuming your loss to Perez came early when you lost like 4 straight to start the season). Without that second game, you all would be 1-1 against each other. Why should Steelers be punished for a quirk of the schedule?
