Barrett leads No. 3 Duke past Hartford, 84-54

Coach Mike Krzyzewski slammed a chair during a timeout shortly after halftime. By the end of the game, RJ Barrett was slamming home an alley-oop pass off the glass.

Just that quickly, Duke can turn a frustrating night into yet another blowout.

Barrett had 27 points and a season-best 15 rebounds, and third-ranked Duke pulled away to rout Hartford 84-54 on Wednesday night.

No. 14 North Carolina beats UNC Wilmington 97-69

North Carolina gave its Hall of Fame coach what he wanted in a dominant second half against an in-state opponent.

The 14th-ranked Tar Heels need it to be the first step during an important month that could give them the chance to sharpen their imperfect play.

Cameron Johnson scored 21 points to help the Tar Heels beat UNC Wilmington 97-69 on Wednesday night, turning a close game into a rout by doing the very things coach Roy Williams has been pushing them to do.

No. 3 Duke wins 4th straight, beats Yale 91-58

There's no questioning the NBA-destined young talent at third-ranked Duke, showcased game after game through big offensive totals and highlight-reel dunks.

Yet coach Mike Krzyzewski also sees a group that is improving steadily, including with the defense that harassed Yale with turnover-forcing pressure Saturday.

"They listen and they want to do what we want them to do," Krzyzewski said after a 91-58 win. "We're better. If we stay healthy, we're going to get better because they have good attitudes, they have great chemistry, they believe in us, I believe in them.

Alexander-Walker leads No. 15 Virginia Tech past SC State

Perhaps it was the snow, or the small crowd in attendance, or semester-ending exams -- or maybe a combination of all three -- that caused Virginia Tech to get off to a slow start against South Carolina State.

Everyone, that is, except for Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

Alexander-Walker scored 19 points to lead No. 15 Virginia Tech to an 81-44 victory over the Bulldogs on Sunday.

Guy, Jerome lead No. 4 Virginia over VCU, 57-49

Virginia Commonwealth gave Virginia the test the Cavaliers sought when they put the Rams on their nonconference schedule. Down the stretch, Virginia passed.

The Cavaliers outscored VCU 19-6 over the final 6:30, a span that saw the Rams whistled for six fouls, as the home team pulled away late for a 57-49 victory Sunday.

Forrest helps No. 11 Florida State beat SE Missouri 85-68

Playing for the first time in eight days, Florida State looked rusty and trailed for much of the first half.

Trent Forrest soon changed everything, driving to the basket and consistently producing points or drawing fouls.

Forrest scored a career-high 23 points and freshman Devin Vasselladded 16 points as No. 11 Florida State overcame a sluggish first half and beat Southeast Missouri 85-68 on Monday night.

No. 2 Duke emerges from exam break to beat Princeton 101-50

A cold offensive start for second-ranked Duke on Tuesday night turned out to be a good sign for coach Mike Krzyzewski. That's because his Blue Devils never let all those missed shots infect the team's defensive focus.

RJ Barrett continued his rookie-season scoring rush, finishing with 27 points to help second-ranked Duke beat Princeton 101-50. Meanwhile, as the offense got rolling to hand Princeton its most lopsided loss in its program history, the defense finished with a bevy of steals, blocks and deflections to earn the approval of the Hall of Fame coach.

Johnson, Daniels help NC State stun No. 7 Auburn 78-71

North Carolina State has another big win against a ranked opponent under Kevin Keatts.

Markell Johnson had career highs of 27 points and five 3-pointers to help the Wolfpack upset No. 7 Auburn 78-71 on Wednesday night, improving to 4-1 against top-10 teams under the second-year coach.

Jerome leads No. 5 Virginia to 69-52 win over Gamecocks

Virginia also won its first nine games last season, and then got stung by defensive-minded West Virginia.

This time, the Cavaliers made it a perfect 10.

Ty Jerome scored a second-high 25 points, Kyle Guy had 18 and No. 5 Virginia beat South Carolina 69-52 on Wednesday night to improve to 10-0 for the first time in four years.

Williamson helps No. 2 Duke top unbeaten Texas Tech

Zion Williamson was the must-see player to watch on an NBA stage. The Duke star was heckled when he missed a dunk in warmups and had Blue Devils diehards -- and casual hoops fans and NBA stars -- roaring each time he touched the ball.

He felt at home as a guest inside the New York Knicks locker room.

Williamson might look pretty good next season in a blue-and-orange uniform, too.

Williamson had 17 points, 13 rebounds and wowed a crowd of nearly 20,000 before he fouled out, and the second-ranked Blue Devils ended No. 12 Texas Tech's unbeaten start with a 69-58 victory Thursday night at Madison Square Garden.

Hunter, Guy lead No. 5 Virginia past William & Mary, 72-40

As No. 5 Virginia's second-leading scorer, De'Andre Hunter needs to be assertive on the offensive end.

Two straight subpar efforts motivated him to get back on track against William & Mary on Saturday.

Hunter scored 18 points, Kyle Guy had 16 and the Cavaliers pulled away after halftime and beat the Tribe 72-40.

Hill leads No. 10 Hokies in 85-40 rout of Md.-Eastern Shore

Ahmed Hill thought it was a perfect way to end the nonconference portion of No. 10 Virginia Tech's schedule.

Hill scored 20 points and the Hokies shot nearly 66 percent as they drubbed Maryland-Eastern Shore 85-40 on Friday night for their sixth consecutive victory.

No. 20 NC State stays hot, beats Loyola (Maryland) 97-64

North Carolina State has a national ranking, confidence in a productive 10-man rotation and its best start in more than a decade.

That's about all coach Kevin Keatts could've wanted from a now-completed nonconference schedule, which wrapped Friday night with the No. 20 Wolfpack beating Loyola (Maryland) 97-64.

Guy's 30 points lead No. 4 Virginia past Marshall, 100-64

Kyle Guy said there's no "feeling" he gets when he's shooting the ball well.

It's more like a responsibility to reward distributors Ty Jerome and Kihei Clark when they make it a point to find him.

"When they go out of their way to find me is when I really feel like I'm (at) my best shooting the ball," Guy said Monday.

He was plenty good in the No. 4 Cavaliers' 100-64 victory over Marshall, scoring a career-best 30 points and making 10 of 14 shots overall and seven of nine from 3-point range. He also set a career high with eight rebounds, all in just 26 minutes of work.
