More People Are Watching Wrestling Than the NBA Playoffs Posted May 19th 2007 5:00PM by Marcel Mutoni The NBA Playoffs, in the Western Conference at least, have been pretty good so far. Golden State had a nice little run, Utah has been a great story, and we all know about the Phoenix/San Antonio series and all of the drama that went with it. Apparently, this wasn't enough for most TV viewers. It would appear that something much more compelling was taking place in professional wrestling. "But the worst thing is, both hours of WWE Raw were watched by more people than any of the NBA games. One of the other Jazz-Warrior games finished behind an episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants" in eighth place, tying with "Finding Nemo" and "Fairly Odd Parents." Doesn't it seem as if the NBA playoffs, with all the media hype, ought to be able to beat out pro wrestling, which doesn't benefit from publicity in any sports page in the country? The Portland Tribune columnist poses a great question, one I'm not entirely sure how to answer. All I know is that as a fan of the League, I'm a little concerned that a dramatic series such as the Jazz/Warriors tilt was overshadowed by an episode of "SpongeBob SquarePants". I can't even imagine what people will tune into watch just so they can avoid the Spurs/Jazz series. All I can say is:
Not really surprizing, basketball has always been hard pressed for ratings. WWE has an audience that tunes in every week on average, it's hard to take away that core audience.
Its just stupid. Wrestling is the stupidest sport and I dont get how anyone can like that sh*t. Juiced up fake fighting and drama mixed in. Yayyy....I dont care if other people arent watching though, their just missing out and its not my problem.

Plus WWE doesn't allow juicing. Its part of their health program, it goes right along with their drug testing.

You have to remember that some people stop watching the NBA Playoffs after there team gets eliminated. I havent even watched a game since the Mavs got kicked out. Jazz are a low profile team. They arent mass market, or a well known team like some of the others. Same goes with Warriors. WWE fans tune in every week
Well, look at the teams in the playoff's right now. Cleveland, Detroit, Salt Lake City, San Antonio. Yeah, it's no suprise nobody is watching. Mediocroty, the lack of superstar/dynasty teams has lowered interest...thus why NBA ratings stink.
IF the NBA playoffs were only on once every week on a Tuesday or w/e, they would get better ratings than wrestling, I guarentee it...

The games are also too late for people that live in the East Coast...Some of the Warriors/Dallas games were on at 11:30 here...I'm sorry, but Im not gonna stay up until 2 o'clock on a school night. I just cant do that and go to school the next morning...
Since the Mavs lost, I've only watched maybe one or two full games. I'm really just not that interested in the Spurs, Cavs, or Jazz.
Raw is the most watched program in the history of cable television. It's not the first time WWE has been rated higher than the NBA playoffs either. In the end basketball is still way more popular, but unlike WWE which only has one fanbase, the NBA breaks up into 30 separate fanbases. Obviously when only two of those groups are involved in a series it'll be rated lower.
I think the NBA should go to a 50 game schedule or something around there at least. It'd be alot more fun to watch games. and maybe best of 5 rounds in the first two playoff series.
Why do you guys keep reading into just the WWE thing? did you realize that Spongebob Squarepants got more watchers then the NBA game?
I lost interest after the first round when the Heat were kicked out. I watched atleast one game in every series in the first round including every heat game. In the second round, I watched Spurs-Suns and Jazz-Warriors. Now, I dont really care about it anymore, its gonna be Spurs-Pistons in the Finals. The NBA has to fix the playoffs because the most interesting series have already been played and a lot of fans including myself have not tuned in too much lately to the rest of the playoffs.
