But he is another team's failed lotto pick....and we have had such great results reviving the careers of Vonleh, Harkless, and Stauskas! :banghead2:

There is 0 chance the Clippers would trade two expirings for money next year and cost themselves a chance at Kawhi in the process.

You know what? I could actually see (or maybe I just convinced myself) Chicago being interested in a Harkless/Leonard swap. No they aren’t expiring but they’re still young-ish and play positions they could use help at. Lopez is expiring, and their only SF beyond this year is Hutchison. They actually signed Parker with the intention of playing him at SF. If Leonard and Harkless bust they have two expiring contracts next season, and they’d still have enough cap space to hand out a max contract (not like any top FA would go there right now anyway) this coming summer. If they play well they have their bird rights and can re-sign them. Add a second round pick and maybe?

Oh, I don't like the way that he's structured the deal, but I think Avery Bradley would be a nice fit with this team. Pass on the other two.

Bamba's agent must do everything he can to get him out of Orlando.

Orlando is the place where potential goes to die.

I just can't, no matter how hard I try, imagine Olshey doing anything significant with this roster. I read these trade scenarios and I'm like yeah! but it's all dead inside me. No hope. But I'm a glutton for punishment, it seems, because here I am again reading them.

Agreed. Trades take 2 interested parties. FAs go where they want. The draft actually gives the team control over their own fate. In the hands of a competent GM, it is still the most cost effective way to add talent.

Now, if someone can just convince Olshey to draft a player instead of a "project."

He fits by being a role player that's bad at his role?

I was going to say he fits as an oft injured under-achiever...but your answer works too!

I think the ownership uncertainly is more of a barrier. Because, as for Olshey, he DOES typically do a mid-season trade (that temporarily sparks us to a great second half record and then a flame out in the playoffs).

But now I say that, besides getting Nurk, does he do midseason trades? Somebody find his history of transactions...

Are you doubting this stuff about Jody Allen wanting to keep the team?

He's made a few. Last season to unload Noah. This season to unload whoever to get below the threshold. There was the Afflalo deal. The Nurk deal turned out to be significant. But since there's no precedent of swinging for the fences, these ideas all seem highly unOlsheyian.

Afflalo and Nurk is all that comes to mind.

What's a little frustrating about Olshey is that he seems to stick with players much longer than I would, but then trade them (or let them go) just as they seem to be getting useful.
Certainly that was the case with Patty C, who is SO much better for the Bucks than Stauskas is for us. And it's certainly true for Vonleh (altho, to be fair, I didn't mind losing him) and some are still missing Ed Davis.

I forgot Afflalo. God I hated that trade.
