Sometimes my hatred for them hibernates just a little, then something like this happens. You think the national media talks too much about it, the local sports talk shows here in LA act as if it is there right to get him. Funny because when they couldn't get a top FA to come to LA in the last few years they all started to acknowledge that you can build your brand anywhere these days. Now that LeBron signed in LA they are back to the theory that a player is foolish not to want to play for the Lakers. Because only in the media capital of the world is it beneficial for them ......... after BB. Like these stars worth 100 million dollars really need to worry about that.

    Fuck the Lakers

Was it ever disallowed for players to do so, or only front office and coaching staff?

Apparently the NBA is allowing players to do this. I have no idea why as recruiting is recruiting. I bet this gets addressed soon with the complaints from some of the NBA teams. It will be interesting to see how this develops.

Either he refused to comment, does Neil pick up phones anymore? Or, his quote was not included because it went something like, "Look, I'll be going back to LA soon, I'm ok with it. Does it make my job hard. Yes. You can't overreact like the fans are doing. Oh God, the Blazers aren't winning because the NBA isn't enforcing tampering and allowing all the star players to congregate and create superteams. Those stars aren't coming to Portland to begin with. As a GM in a small market you have to bifurcate those sentements from the job at hand. Does it go unappreciated when you put together a 6 year retool plan. Yes. But, that is expected during a 10 year rebuild. That overreaction. "

NBA is shrugging its shoulders I guess.
We all know this 'tampering' happens a ton behind closed doors . . .

The NBA needs a franchise player tag.

The player movement freedom has watered down the product.

Just read where AD wants Legacy over money! He wants championships or the ability to compete for them, he wants the youngsters that are fans of his to see him as a champion!
Guess I cant blame the guy!
He's a Laker, had dinner with Lebron last night after game. I mean, who wouldn't want to play with the best baller in the world and you may be the missing piece.

If there was ever a time to kill free agency it is now. It was like unions in the beginning it was great, wages went up, benefits got handed out business flourished and it was not the Celtics and the lakers every year. Now it is the players getting the top ten players and putting them on 3 or 4 teams while jacking up ticket prices in that city. You cant really root for a player anymore that plays for you chances are he will be playing for someone else next year.

The NBA allows this drama because it loves this drama and attention. It is not a case of “let them get away with it”. People have to get that out of their head. They want this and like it. Starting with Adam Silver. He loves this. He’s a good commissioner but he literally wants the jimmy butler in MN drama, the lebron to LA, the AD drama, all of it.

Honestly, I don't see why players can't say whatever they want. I think it is actually crazy GMs would complain about this. Or a better word would be pathetic: I think it is actual pathetic GMs are complaining about this.

If you were the Blazers GM and Damian Lillard was on your roster, and someone like Lebron James started recruiting him it wouldn’t bother you?

No. You can't control everything. This goes on everywhere. I've recruited my friends to work where i do. Many players are friends and this shit has been going on for awhile.

Two players should be able to go to dinner and say whatever they want about playing together. It's happened at Team USA camps.
