<span style="font-size:10pt;line-height:100%">If Carter Stays, Jefferson May Go</span><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Vince Carter has the option to see what he can get on the open market, and all indications are that he will."It appears as if he's headed for free agency," Nets' president Rod Thorn said. "We'll see what happens. We would like to sign him, if we can agree on a contract."The Nets have until June 30 to extend Carter's contract or he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Thorn has had some negotiations with Carter's agent, Kurt Schoeppler, but the discussions went nowhere.Sources said the Nets' offer is between $42 million and $48 million over three years, but Carter wants closer to $20 million per season."His public posture is he would like to stay here, but he obviously would like to get the best possible contract he can get," Thorn said Monday after conducting exit interviews with the players. "Sometimes those two things mesh. Sometimes they don't."According to NorthJersey.com, Richard Jefferson could be packaged for a big man if Carter is re-signed.</div>-RealGM
I'd rather let Carter go and try and find a Kittles type player along with a Kenyon type player and see how that goes.
I think the Nets need to do the opposite. Jefferson is great...He is aggressive, he's got a great heart, he's always looking to attack, and he's also got a good shot with nice range too.Carter maybe the most inconsistent star player in the league...He disapeared in the playoffs...He jacks shots at times...eugh....I'm sure some team desperate for a scorer would offer the Nets quite a bit of talent as well...maybe the Magic, Bobcats, etc...
Well, it's true...when RJ is healthy, he's much better than VC...we saw that this playoffs and during some parts of the season. He's younger as well I'm pretty sure. Kidd/RJ/Big Man X would be better than having Carter/Kidd/Big Man X
^ Carter was playing with knee tentinitis and when Carter is hot, he is unstopable.Like I siad before though, I'd rather him walk then 60 mil from us.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BrewCityBuck @ Jun 1 2007, 10:20 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Vince Carter wants $20 million a year? What a selfish bastard.</div>No lying there.....Vince one day says he wants to keep the team together cause they can make a run next season and the next day he says 48 mil or even 51 mil for 3 years isn't enough for him.If I were the Nets I'd try to set up a sign and trade with someone and get him out of NJ. This team will not make it past the 2nd round of the playoffs with him on the team.
Yeah, Carter says he cares about the Nets and wants to keep the team together. But, knowing that the team can't afford all 3 of them, he asks for a crapload of money. It just doesn't make sense. Only problem is, if you get rid of Carter, Kidd has threatend to leave with him. So, it's really almost safer to trade Jefferson. He's really valuable, and you could maybe get something nice for him.
^ too go along with what he said up there. Jefferson is good, and yeah Carter has had his inconsistent points, but you have to look at what he is capable of. Kidd will leave if carter leaves, and you dont want kidd to leave. Jefferson is expendable because we have boki and he can do just as much as jefferson. Trade Jefferson off for a big man here goes our lineup- Kidd, Carter, Boki, Moore, and a big guy, any other than collins and Im good
As good as Carter is, he's streaky and sometimes lacks the intensity to be the best player in the game. For 20 million a season, I'd let him walk.
