Russian state-owned network tweets satirical video of Trump getting Christmas presents

Russian state-backed news outlet RT on Monday released a satirical video depicting President Trump opening Christmas gifts.

The video, titled "Russian Spies in the White House?" shows Trump, played by an actor, in the Oval Office, where he opens presents from other world leaders.

“It’s difficult to find a good present for the leader of the free world,” the news site wrote online. “We, at RT, have invoked our inner SNL [Saturday Night Live] writer to imagine what Donald Trump will find under the Christmas tree, where there is one box from us, this year.”

In the video, Trump begins by opening a gift from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who gave him small gold busts of the two leaders. Trump tosses the bust of Kim aside before opening his next gift: A “Make America Great Again” hat boasting a “Made in China” label.

The final unmarked package is revealed to be a gift from RT, a t-shirt in Russian that reads “Do you work for the GRU? [Russian Military Intelligence].”

The final scene shows first lady Melania Trump wearing the t-shirt as Trump lies in bed looking at an iPad.

“Melania, you’re from somewhere over there,” Trump says in the video. “What does that t-shirt say?”

“Yes, Donald,” the video’s Melania responds. “It says ‘Make America Great Again,’ what else?”

In a disclaimer on their website, RT notes that the clip is satirical and that Trump is played by an actor.

“We have no damn idea what the First Lady wears in private with her husband,” the outlet writes, before linking to the RT shop, where the GRU shirt is available for purchase.

RT was one of several Russian firms that made payments to former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn, who has since pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia. Flynn was paid $45,000 by RT in 2015 to speak at a gala.

In 2017, the network was forced to register as a "foreign agent" in the U.S.
