I'm going to be going through every team and posting some CJ trade ideas. Should I create yet another thread about CJ and put all my posts in one place or should I just continue adding to this thread? I'll try my best to be as realistic as possible. There are lots of teams that most likely wouldn't want to trade for CJ but I'm going to include them anyway just so we can get an idea about his trade value and see what both myself and you fellow Blazer fanatics are looking for in a trade. Keep in mind I'm also trying to consider the financial impact of a team trying to preserve cap space since CJ has a big contract. Also, most of these would require dropping someone, a different trade, or adding Caleb (or one of the bench guys) to the mix to not exceed 15 players on the roster. This is also why you won't see many trades that are like 4 or 5 players for CJ even though some of those might be fair for both sides.

I'm starting with Atlanta even though they would be dumb to pair CJ with Trae Young.

Draft Picks: All of their own, 2019 1st from Dallas (Top-5 protected), 2019 1st from Cleveland (Top-10 protected), 3 2nds in 2019 (theirs, Charlotte, and worst of Min/LAL), and several future 2nds.

Bazemore, Prince, and the Cavs 1st rounder for CJ - Dumping Bazemore's contract could be a way for Atlanta to justify taking on CJ's contract even though it has an extra year. We get a couple of athletic wings who can defend. The Cavs 1st is risky because it likely won't convey this year and if not conveyed next year turns into two 2nd rounders. Maybe we can get them to add one of their 3 2nd rounders this year too. Prince has one more year left on his rookie deal. This trade also knocks $5 million off of our total cap number this year making ducking the tax more of a possibility.

Lin, Dedmon, the Dallas 1st rounder, and the Hawks 2nd rounder for CJ - This would be strictly a move to improve finances by getting expiring contracts and some picks. In the 2019 draft we'd then have two 1sts and a high 2nd as ammo to possibly move up in the lottery for a real difference maker.

Lin, Dedmon, Prince, and the Hawks 2nd rounder for CJ and Swanigan - Blazers improve their future salary and still add a young wing. Hopefully the Blazers can do better than this but I'm not so sure anymore.

    CJ to Boston:

Boston isn't likely to be interested in CJ and they really only have one player that would work and that is Gordon Hayward since all of their other contracts are pretty small so all these ideas would involve him.

Draft Picks: Boston has all their own picks unless this year their 2nd rounder is pick 56-60. Boston has 3 additional 1st round picks including Sacramento unprotected, Memphis top-8 protected, and LAC top 14 protected. Those picks would currently all convey and Boston would have picks 13, 18 22, and 23 right now.

Hayward for CJ - This trade works but puts us pretty deep into the tax. Definitely interesting.

Hayward, Ojeleye, and one of their four 1st round picks (probably least favorable) for CJ and Aminu - Almost an even trade salary wise and we pick up a pick.

Hayward and Ojeleye for CJ and Swanigan

These mostly depend on if you think Hayward would be better than CJ on our team but I doubt Boston would do these.

If we're doing Boston trades, the guy I want is Jaylen Brown. He's so under-utilized there and has way more to show than the opportunity he's been given.

I'm going through CJ trades and there isn't enouth salary on Boston's end to get Brown because they're not going to trade both Hayward and Brown for CJ. I'm trying to be realistic.

One of the problems with over-paying players - you make them harder to trade. Players in his salary range tend to be either real stars or albatross contracts nobody wants. At $10 million a season, CJ is a useful trade chip. At $15 mil....maybe. At $20+ mil there are a host of cheaper options.

Kenneth Faried is an expiring, and is languishing on the bench in Brooklyn behind Ed Davis. When he did play in November, he seemed to be effective. I wonder if there would be value in bringing him in.

Denver spent years trying to get rid of him and finally found a taker in Brooklyn. Where would he play as we have Aminu and Collins already ahead of him.

Is Gordon Hayward washed, a bad fit, or is it just a matter of rust?

Think Boston would like to clear $30M before the summer of ADs free agency? Give them Turner, Meyers or Moe, and a pick.

Easy answer would be play Collins at the 5 and Faried alongside him at the 4. Give us a legit active rebounding presence off the bench. He's no Montrezl Harrell, obviously, but we could use what he provides. And like I said, he's an expiring, so if one or two of our longer contracts went out in exchange for him, it would benefit our payroll situation for next year.

They didn’t get rid of Ed Davis only to replace him with a shittier version. We don’t really need what Faried provides either. Rebounding isn’t the problem. We need a bucket getter.

He wouldn't be the target, simply a piece that might provide value along with salary ballast in a larger (CJ?) deal. And yeah, we got rid of Davis, but I think perhaps we regret that. Just saying, do you think Collins/Meyers is a more effective combo off the bench than Faried/Collins would be?

Yes, and I don’t like Meyers.

what would be even better is what we had earlier in the season when Meyers wasn’t in the rotation and Collins was the lone big.

...but throw in the emerging Meyers Leonard and it's too good for Boston to pass up. It is almost dollar-for-dollar on the Trade Machine so therefor is must happen. Wait, did I just go outside the bounds of being realistic?

Faried isn't a very good defender or a shooter. If we upgrade at PF then it needs to be a much better upgrade and our priority should be a starting caliber small forward. Faried isn't the answer and there was a reason why Denver was trying to move him for a couple years and why Brooklyn doesn't play him much. He simply isn't as good as Aminu or Collins

Although not nearly as good defensively, Faried was Harrell before Harrell. Then Denver tried to turn him into an ISO scorer from mid-range and out went what made him such a good prospect: energy and hustle.

Now he has two toes in his NBA grave.

If we could dump Turner for Faried straight across (which works cap wise) I would do it without qualm. Faried comes off the books a year sooner, and he would do less harm sitting behing the bench in street clothes than ET does on the floor!

Kent Bazemore from a rebuilding Hawks team for young assets would be a great fit.
