Is Marvin Williams a bust? I'd have to say yes. I know he was one of those potential players but he has not improved at all and he does not appear to breakout any time soon.

It's too early to call him a bust, but I agree - I don't see him turning out to be a star, worthy of being picked ahead of Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Nobody ever understood why Atlanta took Williams at 2, that was a terrible pick from the start. If he's going to break out somewhere, it won't be for another couple years and it won't be in Atlanta.

No hes not...atleast not yet. He was drafted by ATL with the Hawks knowing he would have to develop. I think he can be a 20ppg scorer in this league. Hes still very young and has shown some real talent every now and then. Isnt known for his defense though..lol.

Yeah, I just thought about it again and I think it would be near impossible for him to break out in Atlanta.

he was only 19 when he got drafted, so itll take a while for him to do much of anything in this league. he'll be a dependable player in the future, though I think hes gonna come off the bench somewhere

I think Marvin Williams will improve but he will never be worthy of that number two pick just because Deron Williams and Chris Paul were taken after him. I hope im wrong because Atlanta needs a good season. After a while I get tired of watching a team have the top 5 pick every damn season.

Maybe he has more confidence dunking the ball, and posterizing someone but his defense still sucks, can't shoot for his life, and alot of other things that you expect him to improve upon but he hasn't.I want Marvin traded, if he's going to suceed, it won't be here. I think we could get alot for him because he's still got that "2nd pick" tag on him, and he's only 21 or 22. His trade value is very high right now, and the Hawks need to take advantage of that.

There is no way Marvin Williams will become a good player if he stays in ATL. There are better players than him at the same position as him.

definitely not....people knew that it was going to take him a couple years to develope once he got into the NBA. He has made improvements since he has been playing and I think that will be be reoccuring...He is sgoing to be a good player.

Alright, I know a lot about Marvin Williams and his situation and what happened during the draft because being a Bucks fan, that summer with the first pick, I had to defend us not picking him first and had debates about if the Hawks should pick him. About half of people before the draft said that regardless of position, the Hawks should pick Williams because he's the best player at the second pick, another 25% thought the Hawks should pick Deron Williams or Chris Paul, and the other 25% thought the Bucks should have picked Williams. My points when fending off Bucks fans that wanted Marvin Williams was him not being very good at anything, and him being a very passive player and average defender. And looking at him now, he's the odd man out in Atlanta and should be traded. Marvin Williams is obviously never going to be an elite SF. He's just a good one. He's only 6'8" 230, not a spectacular athlete, but a good one, his athletic ability was overrated before the draft. He's simply just not above average at anything, he's an average shooter, average defender, not a big hustle or playmaker, he scores most of his points off dunks....he can get hot shooting the ball but he's inconsistant. He's so passive, he's not going to rip your heart out, doesn't have noticable intensity. I think Marvin Williams would be much better off being on a older team with an experienced PG and more organized rotation, where he can play SF perminately. I think playing with the Hawks is holding him back.

Hell no, Marvin Williams definitely is not a bust. Atlanta has a logjam at the SF position with Josh Smith, Josh Childress, and Marvin Williams. Williams is the odd man out because Atlanta is high on Smith (and he's a very good all-around player), and they like Childress' shooting.

And for the 2nd pick in the draft and with his expectations, he is looking like a bust. Maybe if Marvin Williams was above average in a few categories I would give him the benefit of the doubt, but he simply doesn't show me much.

Like BCB said, he's actually a below average shooter and defender, and the majority of his points come off of open dunks. Before last season I would defend the guy, but after this season he made no strides to improve and he simply doesn't stand out at anything and thats why he is the odd man out. We have to trade him because his value can't get any higher now, he still has the #2 tag on him and people will def. give him a chance. This is a great opportunity for us to fill some major needs(PG, C, vets)

Maybe a Sam Bowie-type player? Except the GOAT would be Chris and Deron...and somewhere along the line, Louis Williams. He's not worthy of a 2nd pick, but will probably be solid later in his career....not 2nd pick worthy, though.

I have said since the day he was drafted that he won't break out until about his 5th year in the league. How I came to that- I don't know. But it is nice because I can't be wrong until his 5th season comes around and by then everyone would have forgotten (they all already did until I just now brought it up). From what I have read about Marvin Williams, he is a humble guy. He isn't pushy and he doesn't command attention. He was the 6th man for the UNC championship team and he knew he wasn't going to start going in. Roy Williams told him, he said he didn't care. When he was a kid, he was the star player on his little kid basketball team. During the championship game, he noticed one of the kids hadn't been in the whole game and he was crying (yeah, he they were young) he went over the to coach and told him to take himself out and put the kid in. What is the point of all of this? Those facts were just to support my previous statements that he is humble and doesn't command attention. In fact, he can be a bit passive- which isn't very good. He doesn't have the type of talent to just explode and be better than everyone at this level. He is going to have to work at being a good player in the league, it isn't come to come naturally. Because of this humble and some what passive nature in a league where the players are in a constant battle for contracts, money, playing time, and whatever else- in this competitive sporting business- players that are a bit more passive and are humble and don't have the talent to just break out, tend to take a little longer to develop than the others.I think he should have stayed in college for his basketball career's sake. Is he a bust? I don't think he should have gone 2nd because I don't think he will ever be a HOFer or a big time superstar, but I think he will be a solid player- not a 2nd overall pick solid player, but a nice lotto pick solid player in the league.

Well, when your the 2nd pick in the draft, you should have the ability to explode and be better than most players. He's clearly not, and him being humble and passive hurts him, that was one of the knocks on him coming out and it's pretty clear right now that its true. I don't really care what he did when he was a kid, when on the court I don't care how humble he is. Athleticly he was overrated coming out of college, he's not intimidating size wise, he's not a good shooter, he's not a playmaker, he's not a defender. He's just a solid B athlete who can get to the rim. I think Rudy Gay is a much better prospect.
