Agreed. At the end of the day, it's really not too difficult. It just takes someone who has the skillset (which is harder said than done).
Terry has now coached 530 games. Only Ramsay (820) and Nate (535) have coached more games for the Blazers. Terry is 5th in win %. This kind of stability is unheard of in coaching ranks. Really surprised Terry has gotten this much leeway.
This is what I would advocate for as well — an interim coach until the ownership situation is sorted out. And the team doesn’t need to look far as I think the obvious choice is someone on the bench already — David Vanterpool. Dame appears to get along with him quite well and, as the unquestioned leader of the team, that will go a long way to ensuring a smooth transition from Coach Howdy Doody.
As long as we are winning and getting in the playoffs I don't see Stotts getting fire anytime soon. I am not saying I actually like Stotts as a coach. But he kind like this team he isn't consistent as a coach as is this team. But lately the offensive is looking little different and the defense is more aggressive that I like. But I truly believe the reason that Nurk more in the offensive it not Stotts but Dame is calling more of the offensive then Stotts is.
I thought I saw Stotts angry at Nurk about something during a timeout before it cut to commercial. What the hell could he possibly be pissy with Nurk about? Was 5x5 not good enough or something?
The game plan start with the coach. I would venture a very strong speculation that Stotts and Lillard go over the game plan before every game. To suggest that it is all Dame has little basis to go on and i bet Lillard would attest to that.
I still like Stotts….I think we're lucky to have him and hope he sticks here. Olshey I'm not so sure about.
He has coached more games for the Blazers than Rick Adelman. Does anyone need more proof that current franchise priorities are F'ed up?
current franchise priorities I'd guess are the team is up for sale...selling a franchise with a stable front office is a plus in the market.
Which is odd, given that the new owner will probably want to hire their own coach and GM as soon as the deal is done. Not that that means you are wrong!
I really don't...revolving doors for coaches and gms is a Laker/Knick thing....we're more along the lines of San Antonio...and I like it...I haven't forgotten the Caleb Canales season or the Larry Mitchell Chad Buchannon front office....we kept the same core for half a decade on the roster without a championship...blew it up and made the playoffs 5 times in a row...I don't get the despair myself..things have been so much worse than they are now.
90 more games in fact. Dunleavy only got 296. Terry is currently fourth in the NBA among longest tenured active coaches behind only Pop (23 yrs), Spoelstra (11 yrs), and Carlisle (11 yrs).
As good as Nurk is, he does some goofy stuff sometimes. And, I believe he takes criticism better than some other guys, so Stotts isn't shy about criticizing him.
when beat reporters ask questions about praising Nurk...Stotts is pretty clear that he's been great for 5 games and they've worked on his left hand finishing in the paint...Nurk is doing amazing work but praise should probably be given to the coaching staff that's rounding out his game...making him more patient, etc
Saw it and it didn't necessarily look pissy to me. Just coaching. I though everyone wanted a pissy coach?
