What does that have to do with asking legitimate questions of a coach about a player that is near max level who is regressing? Because he is not reporting on the Warriors?
Yep as I brought that up in a previous thread. What I find ironic is that last year and the beginning of this year many posters were all over Nurkic for not producing the same as when we first acquired him and then the dogging on Nurk started with trade scenarios following. Now we have Nurk playing beast mode and dominating thanks to some adjustments Stotts has made. No reason McCollum can't recover and this team will be a better team when he does. It seems all to often some fans want to instantly run players out of Portland. We don't need less talent, we need more talent.
Quick can ask whatever question he wants and Stotts can answer it in any way he wants. It's really that simple. Stotts viewed it as Quick trying to stir the pot and get Stotts to say something negative about McCollum so he put a stop to it. That is his right as well. You and others may not like it but that's the reality.
or maybe cause it would offer perspective on his comment about the assist numbers and denigrate his insinuation that that is too low a number for a struggling shooting guard?
Klay pulls up on 6% of his three pointers. CJs pull ups are more than double that. 53% of Klays field goal attempts involve 0 dribbles, compared to CJs 20%. Their roles are not comparable.
It had nothing to do with whether I liked it. It was in response to people asking if the questions were 'fair'. In reality, if Stotts were in a bigger market, he would get questions like that all the time.
Not sure how Klay Thompson got into this discussion but they are completely different players. Very different styles on offense.....and totally different in effectiveness on defense.
Huh? Quick asked how McCollum was impacting the game in other ways since Stotts directly alluded to that. How is that trying to get Stotts to say something negative about McCollum? If anything, Stotts's unwillingness to answer the question was more harmful to McCollum than any words he could have possibly said.
Stotts is a NBA coach. He makes Millions. If he can't take criticsm he is in the wrong job. He is soft.
The funny thing about Klay/CJ is a few on this board, myself included, have been advocating for Stotts to use CJ more off the ball, similar to how golden state uses Klay. Less dribbling, more catch and shoot. If he can’t pass, don’t use him in a playmaker role...obviousllyyyyyy
Sometimes it's easy to project where someone is going based on reputation and the type of questions being asked. Maybe it's not obvious to you but it appeared obvious to Stotts. I disagree that it was more harmful to McCollum though other than those that like to project their own feelings into the equation.
cj doesn't have durant and steph on his team either. so obviously klay's teammates are better, and more willing shooters. they are in different systems. all valid points. cj averages 2.6/as/g thompson 2.1. if quick had included that cj's assist numbers were down this year despite struggles, i would not have even brought it up. is quick's style i have no stomach for. that was what all my references were too.
Is McCollum an effective off the ball scorer? Is that a strength of his or is he better off the dribble. McCollum's role as a playmaker has also been greatly reduced already this year so not sure what your issue is there. What's kind of humorous the other day I was watching a Warriors game and the commentators said that Thompson was going to look more to shoot off the dribble.
Hmmm.... more borderline irascibility than a couple thas have been locked into a loveless marriage for 30 years. And it's only going to get better as the season progresses, THIS WEEK ON..... THE BLAZER VERSION! STAY TUNED!
No, that's called allowing your biases to affect your judgment. Something that Stotts's does quite regularly with his rotations!
Well, CJ has been pretty effective in catch and shoot situations throughout his career, so I’d say he is an effective scorer off the ball. For his career, he has been safely north of 40% in catch and shoot three pointers. For example, last year Klay was at 44% while CJ was at 43%. It’s something to explore imo.
