If you jokers were really so goddamn knowledgable about the game, you would be the ones who are on TV and radio sharing your sports takes. But you're not. Ropp is.
LOL. Ropp isnt on the radio because of his knowledge for basketball. A lot of it is about how and the way in which you speak and your personality. Im sure you knew that though.
Id venture to guess my Job pays quite a bit more than Ropps. I have zero interest in doing radio. Im not claiming to be super knowledgeable about anything. Ropp does know other sports very well, just not basketball. If your arguement is that, well its not a good one...
Relax dude. It's not a big deal as we have a difference of opinion. Not the first time and likely won't be the last time.
He's on the radio because he knows how to say something that will get 105 replies on an internet forum not even related to his radio show. Ratings matter and people talking about his radio show matter. His opinion means literally jack shit as long as he can draw ratings.
But OKC are no closer to currently winning a title than we are so whats he getting at? OKC lost in the first round to a team lead by a rookie, we got swept by a big man that will likely go down as a top 5 PF of all time. If the Warriors collapsed then yes I’d be yelling from the rooftops about taking chances for the title now, trade anyone not named Dame or Nurk for someone great immediately. But as it is, nobody has a chance at beating them so I don’t understand the sense of urgency or why people are so desperate to convince themselves otherwise. I don’t feel like I’m ‘settling’ because I don’t think its possible to beat probably the best NBA team of all time.
If Howard Cossel could make it on air so can Ropp. They both talk through their nose which is a cardinal sin for any broadcaster or Radio Man.
There was a story out the other day quoting the Bucks’ GM saying that when the Warriors had Curry and Ellis as their starting backcourt, they tried to trade Curry for Bogut. The Bucks were concerned about Curry’s ankle and insisted on Ellis. The same knowledge base ended up yielding bad luck for the Bucks and excellent luck for the Warriors. I know, rules, rules!
No idea what he's actually paid, but here: https://www.payscale.com/research/US/Job=Radio_Show_Host/Salary https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/software-engineer-salary-SRCH_KO0,17.htm I'm a little under the average pay on there which makes sense for many reasons without getting into specifics. Either way, even if he made way more than me, I wouldn't really want his job, nor would I say I'm qualified for it. He is knowledgable on other sports, just not on basketball in my opinion. No one seems to counter that he does obviously have an ax to grind with the Blazers. That he admits he doesn't even watch their games most of the time. The argument that I couldn't do his job or I'd have his job is not a good one, because I have no desire to do his job or to go figure out how to. I also never claimed I could do it.
I think it was mostly directed at me, and it's a bad argument because it bases itself off of a premium on basketball knowledge which isnt actually there.
Thats a big reason I don't want to make unnecessary sacrifices to try and get better this year when it would hurt us next year. Wait and see what happens with GS next year and if they lose some key pieces (Durant) then thats the time to strike in the west, this year we would just be attempting to be at best be the losers of the Conference finals or whenever we face the Warriors.
Thats decent logic! And, there are a nu,her of teams looking to see what happens during the off-season with regards to GS.
