Didnt he measure a 40 inch vertical in the combine?

He purposely shorted his standing reach to make his vertical look better. No way he has a 40 inch vertical.

Did you watch the game? Maybe his teammates missed shots so his assists are low. They probably play a fast tempo. Wasnt an inefficient game at all.

Curry- good shooter, limited playmaker, undersized, not a fit with Dame and CJ.

Stauskas- streaky shooter, decent playmaker, sucks defensively.

Both Trent and Simons look like they bring more to the table. But because they’re rookies, forget it. At least the other two are free agents (still not sure curry is but whatever) after the season, so they may not have to wait two years to get an opportunity.

No kidding, it is smooth. He reminds me of Dame the first time I saw him shoot in summer league because of the ease he shoots it. Same easy stroke from 23 as he has from 13. He looks like a keeper for sure. Should gets some time next year and be a major contributor by his 3rd season.

Idk I'm sure the coaches/NO told Simons to shoot as much as possible during his g league stint. He's there to shoot not be timid and pass up shots. He could do that in practice with the blazers.

Maybe by 2 or 3 inches.

I do think he has the proportions that would lead to a shorter than expected standing reach though. Shoulders sit really low / long neck.

    Just got done watching Anfernee.

Shot the ball pretty well and looked really quick and fluid off the dribble usual, but struggled pretty much everywhere else.

Got to the rim, but couldn't finish. Looked unsure of what hand or type of finish to go to and overall just didn't play with much force or physicality around the rim.

Did a lot of catching and holding (Austin Rivers syndrome) and doesn't really see the floor well at this point. Hit the roll man with nice pocket pass once and made the extra pass a couple times which was nice to see, but he's not really making any advanced reads out there not exactly what you'd call a ball mover/quick decision maker.

Looked quick on ball on D, but his lack of physicality or awareness as a team defender definitely showed up often.

So yeah, he's got a lot of work to do, but his quickness, shooting and overall fluidity still has me intrigued.

What I was looking for with these rookies is if they at all 3 layers and they both show there capability they can. Yes they miss shots too but they also made some of those shots. These two rookies are shooters and they been like that there whole life so I don't think there going to change just because there in the NBA.

Seems like most of those things are fixable, what do you think?

I really like Simons, but based on my Blazers experiences, they'll take 2 or 3 years to figure out he's not a PG, which will frustrate me a lot.

Yea he no PG he is off guard and so is Trent. I know Trent can play some sf but to me he more a 2 then he is a 3. So I really didn't understand the Olshey draft last year. Eventually one will be traded.

The Olshey logic is simple, and appropriate. He's got a lot of good players, he needs to gamble on a player becoming very good. Trent's skill translates immediately, and Simons has upside through the roof. Also, draft positions weren't where you normally get rotation players.

    For sure.

The nice thing about him is that his physical tools and skill package really give him an opportunity to be a pretty well rounded scoring guard. This is stating the obvious, but it'll just come down to what degree can he improve on his weaknesses.

Seems like a pretty smart and hardworking kid though so there's definitely reason for optimism.

Trent with 33 points on 15 shots. Perfect 12-12 from the free throw line, many of those late in the fourth to ice it.

Can’t really tell from this video but what I like about Trent’s game is he never seems sped up, he just plays at his own pace. He does have a little chucker in him but I think environment matters, and I’d always rather a guy be aggressive than timid. It’s much easier to chill a guy out than to get him going.
