Right now we are 29-20 through 49 games. Our record when leading going into the 4th quarter is........29-0 Our record when trailing going into the 4th quarter is 0-20 The NBA record is the 1993-94 Dallas Mavs at 53 games. At the time were 7-46, then finally won after trailing heading into the 4th. To put it into perspective, right now, Phoenix is 1-33 when trailing going into the 4th. Props to our Blazers Broadcasting Research Department for this one. #FAMS
Yeah the TNT team last night inferred that the stat was a very very bad sign.....for different reasons. But never elaborated why. To me it means nothing.
I think they're thinking along the lines of how we can't make a comeback in the fourth quarter. Which is true. I'm interested in a breakdown of those deficits after three quarters. Were they on the road? Who were the opponents? How much were we trailing by? etc.
Yeah but we have made comebacks in the 4th (Sacramento comes to mind where we were down like 10-12 in the last 5 minutes ) And the fact they glossed over the point that on the flip side we are 30-0 when leading after 3 (which would suggest we never choke.) Either way I am not sure what to think of the stat. It is interesting (in a Lawler's Law kind of way) but I was surprised by the reaction by Kenny Smith last night when he heard it. To me it means very little.
I believe it is tougher to come back from a deficit to win then it is to hold onto the lead. Maybe that is what they were referring to. Weird ass stat. And the guys know about it, heard them talking about it.
