some interesting chapters in that novel...I just met with my local Social Security agency and talked with them ...very good experience. They take a lot of time to walk you through the details. My wife and I have saved into IRAs and mutual funds etc for 30 years together..I've invested well and have no worries really compared to poor folks. I paid into the PERS system for 13 years...it's not big retirement but it'll probably pay for a new bathroom and small fishing boat to enjoy. I've worked for years for disabled folks who couldn't live without SSI or disability checks...it's small potatoes compared to what big money gets spent on by gov't in my view.....my reality is that family is my first safeguard in life..so many elderly don't have that...to young folks...save some money ..sooner the better..and care for your elders

I'm retired but don't smoke, don't like beer, dress neatly, and so far have been able to hold off tapping social security. The later I wait the bigger monthly check

My place is getting messy what with all the empty beer bottles and cigarette butts all over the floor. Can I come over to your house? You keep yours so neat and you'd sweep up my cigarette butts for me and dispose of my beer bottles.
Hey, you could give me a lift to the payday loan joint where I could cash my welfare check and I could buy more beer and cigarettes for you to dispose of for me at your house.

No, I am not your maid, Lanny. Nor am I your chauffeur. I have far more important and interesting things to do with my time.

Unless you want to claim to be a cat, I am not picking up after you or cleaning your litter box. And cats don't smoke.
