I was thinking Hamilton too. Maybe a Tayshaun Prince? They are almost the exact same size and although Tayshaun was better defensively, they might be close offensively.
You're about the same age as me, did you ever watch Billy Cunningham play? I was a huge Sixers fan growing up before the Blazers came along as Hal Greer was my favorite player but also enjoyed watching Cunningham play as he moved so well with and without the ball and was very smooth. Unfortunately it was during an era where not many games were televised.
Stotts was a 6-6 small forward. He may be vicariously living out his fantasies in how he has Layman play.
I'll check him out on youtube...I remember him but I wasn't a Sixers fan back then....my first favorite team was the Bad Boys but even then they weren't on tv very often...I grew up with sports radio for the most part....in Iowa only the Harlem Globetrotters came to town an I loved them
I almost forgot this from Layman's rookie year: “I thought we put together a really good game, other than Layman getting hot in the fourth quarter. Maybe he should be playing more,” Durant told reporters afterward. Here is some more from the article: “My first year definitely prepared me for my second year, to be able to handle not playing mentally,” he said. “Sometimes the mental game can bring guys down more than anything else. It’s just staying positive in your head, knowing things are going to get better. Keep working hard. “My first two years definitely prepared me even more for this year. I would still keep that same mindset, keep that same maturity when I was going through it. And being more prepared and ready for those moments, so when I’m coming in and playing big minutes, just be ready to have an impact.” “I started off the year playing with the starters, but I think it took a little time learning how to be effective with that group,” Layman said. “I think it’s just finally started to show, watching film, finding spots [to contribute], learning from vets like Moe Harkless, learning how to be effective with CJ [McCollum] and Damian [Lillard] on the court. There’s not really plays being run for you. Just learning how to impact the game on different levels.” “That’s the biggest thing the coaching staff wants from me: always being aggressive,” Layman said. “Learning how to attack and make things happen out there. Recently I’ve been playing with our second unit, just always bringing that same mindset. To me, it really doesn’t matter. I’m in the rotation right now and if I didn’t play the next five games, it’ll still be the same for me. I’m prepared for moments like that.” https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/terps/bs-sp-jake-layman-portland-0124-story.html
Trade CJ in a package for AD and start Layman at SG lol. Dame Layman Harkless Or Aminu AD Nurkic Look at that length!
Sounds like Layman is being a real pro and taking it all in stride. I hope Stotts sticks with him through cold stretches. He has shown to be a solid contributor over the span of 10 games.

Layman is not a shooting guard and without a secondary ball handler in the lineup teams will go hard after Lillard to get the ball out of his hands.
It’s not about having ball handlers, it’s about having guys that can pass the ball. Nurkic and A.D. are both plus facilitators. Besides, Layman can handle the ball and create better than both Aminu and Moe.
I did not realize that Trent Jr. was the first player in G-League history to score 124 points in his first four games.
Their starting 5 before KD Curry Klay Barnes Draymond Bogut Who were the ballhandlers (plural) again?
