I was wondering about their relationship as well.

yeah, that's what I was thinking. He may very well get more than that, maybe a lot more...he's having a great year. But at least Portland could give him well over the MLE

of course, there's that little issue of starting the off-season only 4-6M below the tax line

Randle is only 24 years old. I wouldn't trade Randle if I were them, unless they're convinced that they can't re-sign him.

You think either one would? I feel like they’re going to trade one of them, and then pray the other one (most likely Randle) re-signs. They should probably trade both imo. If I were them I’d also tank. Leave AD at home.

Wait, are you sure? I know the non-bird exception is 120% of the previous contract, but I don't think you can sign a non-bird free agent if you are over the cap and don't use the MLE? Am I wrong on that?

If it's your own free agent that you haven't renounced, yes you can absolutely use the non-bird exception while over the cap without impacting the MLE.

Where do you see this? I've read the cbafaq.com page about 100 times. All I see is the early bird and full bird stuff or that the cap hold is 120%.

Seems pretty clear to me in CBA FAQ 25

This exception allows a team to re-sign its own free agent to a salary starting at up to 120% of his salary in the previous season (not over the maximum salary, of course), 120% of the minimum salary, or the amount needed to tender a qualifying offer (if the player is a restricted free agent -- see question number 42), whichever is greater.

It doesn't say anything about having to be under the cap and only stipulates it can be used for your own free agents.

    Sporting Charts explains Non-Bird Exception
This particular exception allows teams to re-sign a player at 120% of his previous salary or 120% of the NBA minimum, whichever is greater. The maximum length of a Non-Bird Exception contract is four years (the previous CBA set the maximum contract length at 6 years). Like the other Larry Bird exceptions, this exception may only be used by a team to re-sign their own free agents, not another team's free agents. This gives teams a slight advantage in signing their own players, as they are allowed to go over salary cap without penalty. Another interested team may incur luxury tax penalties for signing the player if it puts them over the salary cap.

These players honestly intrigue me more than Davis at this point. I don’t think we’ll strike a deal for AD, so these guys seem more attainable.

Nikola Mirotic (calf) will be re-evaluated in one week.
An MRI confirmed he has a strained right calf, and it's possible he needs more than the week to get back in action. Mirotic's bad ankle was also on his right leg, so that may also keep him off the court until around the All-Star break.

I think Holiday offers the most upside, but attaining him would of course be a much bolder move given it would likely cost us CJ, right?

Mirotic is the easy call. He'd probably fit in the easiest and be cheaper to attain. He's the safest bet, so probably the only one we really consider doing anything about.

Mirotic is pretty money guys, I think a lot of people are underestimating how much better we would be with him in the starting lineup drilling 3s.

Career 36% shooter, a shade under 37%. I think Blazer fans overrate his shooting because of what he did to us in the playoffs. Hes also a mediocre to below-average defender.

Im not even sure hes an upgrade over Aminu.

What are his playoff numbers? Cause that’s all I’m worried about, oh wait I found them.

    2017-2018(9gms 4PDX/5GS)

    Fg 48%
    3p 43%
    Pts 15
    Reb 9.6
    Ast 1.7
    Blk 1.3
    Stl 1.1

    I’ll take it.

Oh yeah, 646 minutes played is a much more valid sample size than 7398 minutes played.

But if playoffs matter so much, Aminu shoots 47% from the field and 43% from 3pt. Plus, he plays defense.

EDIT: Just looked up Mirotic's career playoff splits. He shoots 33.6% from 3pt, so Aminu is a whole 10 points better. Your stats are wrong. You used last years and flipped the FG and 3pt%, and said "career". Aminus CAREER playoff numbers are much more efficient than Mirotics, and is comparable to Mirotic's from last postseason. You just argued against yourself.
