None of those names makes the Blazers a contender though...

That’s the expectation but at the same time Portland hasn’t been this far above .500 at the deadline in years. Last year they were a couple games over. Year before they were well under. Olshey doesn’t have excuses this year.

Edit: let me rephrase. Olshey will have a harder time explaining not making any moves to upgrade the roster this year.

@Scalma ....I made reference to it before. I received a call a couple of days ago that Portland and Boston had been in touch. I PM'd @BonesJones and notified him but it was short because there were no details given.... just that they had spoken in some manner.

After that, I've just tried to speculate what that might have been about. To me, Hayward seemsed the most obvious and PERHAPS articles like the above lends credence.... who knows.

Imagine Olshey and Ainge negotiating with each other jfc. That’s not going to lead anyyyyywhere.

I just realized we'd have to endure three years of Calabro calling him, "Gordy"

    No deal.

    next 2 seasons:

    Dame - 30.7M
    CJ - 28.5M
    Hayward - 33.5M
    Nurkic - 12M

105M for 4 players with the tax threshold being in the 30-35M range

all Portland has to do is have 10 more players signed for no more than 25-30M combined....unless the thinking is 2 more years of heavy taxes is a good sales pitch

that just doesn't seem like good fiscal management for a team that's likely for sale. But maybe my assumption that the Vulcans have insisted on sound financial decisions and tax reduction is off base

If they were actually selling the team they’d probably want to present the best possible team, no? But so far all that is just speculation since I haven’t read or heard anywhere that they’re even thinking about a sale. There’s really no reason to sell an NBA team unless you’re desperate for the money. It’s too good for business.

sure seems like most times, management will clear as much salary as they can before a sale. Selling a 3rd of 4th seed team with playoff problems that is several million dollars over the tax line with limited flexibility and upside would not be nearly as good as selling a lottery team with a low payroll, high flexibility, some young prospects with potential, and some future high draft picks

last I heard, Jody Allen had no interest at all in owning the Blazers long term. She's not much of a BB fan from what I read and in 30 years only attended a handful of games and none recently, IIRC. Could be wrong about her attendance though. Owning an NBA team can certainly be profitable, but if she can sell the Blazers for over a billion dollars, that has to have her attention

Except Davis isn't high on Boston and certainly his father isn't either.

@Chris Craig ...Davis can't go to Boston now anyhow so that part would have to wait. Also, of all the people they might move, Tatum is not one of them IMO.

SO Hayward is going to play the entire game? I am thinking someone else would have to be the SF with the second unit

Just stagger Hayward like we did CJ all these years. If not, give Trent a chance.

Why do they refer to Gordon as a PF? He has played that this year but he is obviously out of position. He's been a SF all of his life. There is no problem with an Aminu/Gordon frontcourt.

His best production has come at PF. He played there last year and was also a PF in college.

    Aaron Gordon? Not Gordon Hayward.
