We couldn’t match any of those offers. Barnes maybe if we tossed in two firsts, but I’d you notice expiring were passed in all three deals and we don’t have any besides Aminu.

    Butler/George/Harden were not deadline moves.

So help out my early morning, haven't had coffee yet memory. What trades has Neil made that made us anything close to a contender? That would be of impact to me.

You would want Barnes and his contract here? I wouldn't touch that.

I know why we weren't involved (to be honest, that too is Neil's fault). But i'm responding to the idea that big moves don't happen at the deadline. They do.

No one wants to "rebuild", I'm not saying I want Davis to leave. I'm saying I want to get him and then try to convince him to stay.

I didn't say we are a contender. But he has made trades much more meaningful than what BRoy keeps aching on and on about.

We should be more active in these kinds of deals next season. Then again probably most of our expirings will be extended at the end of next season by us so we won't trade them.

    I’m being facetecious.

Neil makes trades, just not difference making trades. If we’re talking starter level players there have only been two. The one for Nurkic and the one for Plumlee since he got us Nurkic. I guess the Harkless trade counts in principle but Harkless isn’t really a starter quality player.

I didn't say anywhere that you said we were a contender. But when talking about an impact trade, doesn't the trade have to make an actual 'impact'?

    SA has won nothing post-Duncan.

Robin Lopez, Afflalo, Plumlee, Nurk, not to mention maneuvering around the draft to find ways to get players he wants via TRADE.

People keep jazzing their pants about Jake Layman. You do realize that he was drafted by Orlando and traded to Portland? And that goes for half of his draft selections.

As I said in another thread, we need a place just for the posting of excuses, rationalizations, and examples of Stockholm syndrome.

We have a different interpretation of 'impact'. Perhaps Nurk will grow into that category at some point.

One could arguably say that bringing in Lopez, his minor tinkering, and the eventual trade for Afflalo were designed to create a contender. Before the Wes injury, I believe that team was a contender. Impact trades need to happen at the right time. Timing is key.

They won 61 games and went to the conference finals the very season after he retired. What have we done?

On that we can certainly agree. Sadly, we just never got to see if that would come to fruition.
