Lots to unpack in this one but Dame is candid as usual.

Fun story about PA letting Dame use his studio to record his album and a whole lot more. You tend to forget how rich some of these dudes really are.

Dame is such a rare type of superstar. Talking about how he doesn't want to do something to negatively affect his teammates and their families. That's rare stuff.

It really is, and I think he feels the same about his coach too. He gets it, there is more to life than, at all/whatever cost getting a ring. He represents the true meaning of loyalty, imo.

Dame said they found out about Aldridge not coming back while on a plane to LA to visit him.

It’s the way he approach’s the game and how he treats people that make him special. Listening to him talk about how he is the way he is, going to go down as one of the top Blazers of all time!

I would even say he will go down as one of the most level headed zuperstaars the NBA has.

It's easy to cheer for a guy who's not only a franchise star but sitting next to you cheering just the same...also a fan...he bridges that gap

Frank Zappa once said to Alice Cooper, "Alice. You either get it, or you don't."

    Dame gets it!

Did you guys catch Dame saying we needed a guy with some attitude who can be a force to get a sort of mental edge in the playoffs, and how all successful teams had one? He suggested that Kanter can be that. I'm not so sure

I'm just really happy to know that Dame lobbied for Kanter to come here....and Dame's game at the allstar game opened some allstar's eyes...their reaction to him bringing them back from a blowout was priceless....AD was just gazing at him heading to the bench....Dame let his game do the talking and when players hear his interviews they should be humbled by his maturity. We may not have the most talented NBA roster but we definitely have the best leader.

I listened to podcast. What really stood out was Lillard saying that he wants to win a championship but more important are personal relationships & family. I thought of Michael Jordan. Six championships, multiple MVPs, arguably greatest basketball player ever, every accolade the sporting world could bestow, made hundreds of millions of dollars. And at his Hall of Fame induction he showed the real person behind the PR personality: bitter, petty, egotistical, vengeful, unforgiving. I thought then of an interview with Sam Bowie when he was asked about being poster child for bad draft picks. Bowie said he really had little to complain about. His NBA career was not what he'd hoped for, but he still got to play in the NBA, something few ever do. With the money he made he started a business he still owns. He's been married to the same woman for over 20 years and they have three healthy children, all of whom either are or will be going to college. He said life had been very good to him. And he seemed so much happier than Jordan!

I genuinely hope Dame wins one or more titles with Portland but whatever happens I think he'll find personal satisfaction.

Amusing side note. I was letting Lucia out of the house when Dame was talking about recording his album while Paul Allen was trying to persuade "LA" (Aldridge) to return. So I initially misheard it as he was trying to persuade "a lady" to return and thought WTF??? Even in the unlikely event he'd confide something so intimate in a much younger man who was, after all, his employee, no way would Dame be so vulgar as to spew it to the world. I went back and replayed, realized I had been letting the cat out of the house but Dame was not letting the cat out of the bag.
