Legit question, HCP...I've never been to Beale St. but have heard a bunch about it. I have been on Bourbon St. during Mardi Gras, and thought that aside from about 2 blocks of Touristy-ness it was a shithole. Is Beale St. the same way?
Nowhere near as bad simply because it's only one block long. Cops everywhere. It's like 100yds, that's it. Not much to it. Good food and music though.
I'm friends with a couple who grew up in Memphis, lived there their whole lives, and moved here last year. You couldn't pay them enough money to go back. They are happy they got their kids out of there. They say Nashville is nice though. I have a friend from here who is in the music industry who moved to Nashville and his family loves it there.
You have more than one friend? Isn't there some sort of rule against gloating about it to all of us nerds on here?
I have been to Memphis a few times but never to play. I was always working and then got out but I still say Memphis has the best barbeque in the U.S.
I was in NOLA in 98 for a home inspectors convention . There are shady parts but if you stay in the tourist area you were OK. One of my old friends from a municipality I worked for went to Memphis and he said the same thing as you.
I had a friend who was a phenomenal keyboardist and he went on to form a company that produced music clips and special effects for minor league baseball. His company was/is centered in Nashville.
UCD and I have seen The BB King All-Stars. They play that club in Memphis, but travel to New Orleans every week to play at a club there (which is where we saw them).
Damn. I'm actually jealous of HCP for once. Memphis is a great town to visit. Have fun picking apart the minibar.
