QUOTE

The Grizzlies' search for front-office personnel to replace outgoing team president Jerry West is expected to span an additional two weeks, and will do so without David Griffin. Griffin, the Phoenix Suns' vice president of basketball operations, is no longer a candidate for the Grizzlies' general manager vacancy after he decided to remain with the team where he's worked for the past 14 years. Griffin will receive a more lucrative contract and new title from the Suns, who are expected to name former NBA player Steve Kerr team president and GM. "Griffin withdrew his name (from consideration)," Griz owner Michael Heisley said when reached in Scotland, where he is on a golf excursion with West, among others. "But there's no question that (Griffin) is someone we seriously considered hiring. He was definitely one of the leading candidates." Mark Jackson, a former NBA point guard-turned-television analyst, appears to be a leading candidate to join the Griz. Boston's Chris Wallace and former Denver boss Kiki Vandeweghe have also interviewed. Former Chicago Bulls point guard and executive B.J. Armstrong remains a possible candidate. The Griz are expected to contact Armstrong once Heisley and West return the week of June 10.
LinkInteresting. First Steve Kerr now maybe Marc Jackson. I wonder why these teams are going after announcers with no front office experience what so ever?Edit: I spelled Marc, not Mark in the topic title. Could someone fix that? Thanks.
Whoever West picks im fine with. But I will be glad if he is hired for the simple fact we dont have to listen to him on TV anymore. Hes pretty intelligent basketball wise though...
I think its because they analyze the game so much and know about it alot since thats their job. They would know who fits in with who.

West wants to retire. He has already stated how he doesn't want to rejoin the lakers management.
I wasnt talking about West...I was talking about Marc Jackson.Jkidd, Kerr has been a consultant for a while with Phoenix and he has a partnership or something with them. So your wrong, he has experience. And for all we know Marc Jackson may have done the same for another team.

Its much different when your just letting your opinions be heard rather then having full power and making all the choices. So no, your wrong.
He has experience...maybe not being a full time GM...but GMs just dont come outve mid-air. All GMs at one point hadnt had experience as a full-time GM.
Yes, please hire him so he'll go away from my tv. Hopefully he takes Hubie with him, he could be his V.P. of Basketball Operations or something...
Why do you guys hate Mark Jackson so much? He funny as sh*t, I love when he is a announcer with Marv Albert. I hope he doesn't go.
I just dont like ESPN analysts(except Greg Anthony and Jalen Rose when hes on there). They seem like they are reading off of cards and it gets really annoying. I wish they were more like the TNT crew. They have nothing on Kenny, EJ, Charles and Reggie/Magic.
B.J. Armstrong is the dude who had the baby face for the bulls way back, right? well he was cool, let him have a shot.Or Marc Jackson.. Im sure anyone would do a decent job.
