Some say he is overrated since he had Shaq+Kobe and MJ+Pippen. But before you even try to challenge his coaching, look at this simple fact. Before he came to both teams both were always teams that made it to the second round. He had great talent like all coaches who win many titles but its not easy to win a title even with great players. Maybe the Lakers played in a weak east in the 2000s but they dominated clearly. Any Dynasty has to give respect to the coach. And that's my opinion on why Phil Jackson is not overrated.
The Bulls didn't win any titles until Phil started coaching the team and yes Jordan was there before Phil got there. Also Shaq and Kobe failed to reach the finals before Phil came aboard and led them to three straight. Yes Phil always had the stars on his team but it was his coaching that led them to greatness. Phil Jackson is not overated.

I think he must have some type of mind control over the refs.He kicks Rick Adelman's ass in this regard, as Jackson was on the winning end, and Adelman on the losing end of two of the most scandalously reffed games in the last 20 years.
