Why does the government need to fund the special Olympics? Seems like something that can be funded privately.

It used to be that the church supported such activities more generously but these days people have grown quite miserly, only thinking about themselves.
I volunteered along with my friends every year while going to high school. We would be partnered with a group of special olympic athletes. It was a lot of fun!
You were a good kid. I remember during the Hungarian Revolution our family helped out a refugee family through our church. That was a really good feeling. I never really tried to help anyone else until I got out of the Army and then I would tutor college kids for free. That also was tremendously satisfying. Say what you want about Maris but he also helps the disadvantaged. My hat is off to him for that. Edit: By the way, hobbes, I don't mean that you have anything bad to say about Maris. I was directing my remark to the general reader.
The Special Olympics is well funded by the private sector. Its an international organization. There is no need to spend educational tax dollars on it when US Schools are absolute horseshit. If I'm paying for it through tax dollars, I have every right to express an opinion about it.
Was the perp a good looking woman athlete? Oh God, that must have been terrible. I just realized that might have been insensitive. If it was a man that assaulted you then I hope he lands in prison. If he doesn't land in prison then I hope someone breaks his nose.
It was a developmentally disabled man (this was "Special Games" instead of the "Special Olympics". I had to take my athlete to the bathroom, he kept on rubbing his pants. He knocked on the bathroom stall door, I asked if he was ok, and then he started chasing me around with his erect penis. I reported it to the supervisors, they didn't know what to do so they didn't do anything.
I did too. It really wasn't his fault, I reported it more to protect myself more than anything. The guy couldn't even talk or anything, I just felt really weird after the whole incident.
