<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Looks like Stan Van Gundy couldn't be swayed by the Kings.Although the former Miami coach was in Sacramento to talk with the Kings about their vacancy, Van Gundy accepted the Orlando Magic coaching job, numerous sources told ESPN's Jim Gray late Wednesday night.Van Gundy was reportedly offered the Magic coaching job on Tuesday, but that didn't stop him from flying out to Sacramento on Wednesday to continue that courtship. The former Miami Heat coach spent Wednesday in Sacramento, touring the area and meeting with Kings officials for further discussions about becoming their head coach, the club confirmed.</div>Check out the full article here.I think Van Gundy is a much better option over Billy Donovan. He's had experience with young squads in the past and will help the team develop more chemistry which will lead them deep into the playoffs in the future.
Van Gundy is cool, he looked so chilled out and proud and whateverrr at different times while he was head coach of the miami heat, so mabye he will do with the magic since there young and up and comming and im guessing Van Gundy will be able to communicate well, he's also coached shaq, that will help. Now is he more of a defensive coach or offensive coach, I forget..someone remind me.

This is a move I was hoping for since Brian Hill was fired. Van Gundy proved he can win with young talent, and take young talent out of the first round. He will get the most out of every player on this roster, and with them having no real attitude problems on the team, will make it an enjoyable team to coach for him. My biggest hope is that he gives Diener more playing time, as he was our best defensive point guard, our best shooting point guard, and didn't turn the ball over much at all when he was in last year.
Dang it, I wish he would've taken the Pacers job. Anyway, the future looks bright Magic fans, be happy
I can't believe that the Magic had to give up multiple picks for this guy....<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Heat Receive Compensation For Van GundyPress Release - 06/07 - 7:17 PM ESTThe Miami HEAT announced that former Head Coach and current Consultant to the Head Coach Stan Van Gundy has been released from his contractual obligations in order to become the Head Coach of the Orlando Magic . In return for releasing Van Gundy from his HEAT contract, Miami obtained draft picks and future compensation from the Orlando Magic .In exchange for releasing Van Gundy, the HEAT obtained Orlando?s first pick in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft (39th overall selection). Miami also received the right to exchange first-round picks in the 2008 NBA Draft provided that Orlando?s first-round pick is not among the first 14 selections in the 2008 NBA Draft. If Orlando?s pick is among the first 14 selections or if Miami chooses not to exchange first-round selections in the 2008 NBA Draft, the HEAT will instead receive Orlando?s own second-round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft and future compensation.</div>
They did not need to give up multiple picks. They need to give up one, and with Stan Van Gundy coaching a squad with a monster like Dwight Howard and a potential new second option now that Grant Hill is gone. I don't think they'll need to worry about giving up a quality pick. Even if the Magic return to the lottery, they'll just need to give up a second rounder. Van Gundy did a great job on the Heat a couple years back when it was the Wade/Caron/Odom trio and also the first year Shaq was there. He'll do a fine job with Orlando and hopefully make them a more consistent squad.
I don't know what "and future compensation would be," but I do know that it doesn't appear like we are giving up that much to get a quality coach for the group of players that we have. We are giving up our top second round pick this year, and I'm sure Demtri Nichols will be gone by that time anyways. As well as just switching a pick next year, unless we happen to go farther in the playoffs than the Heat do, in which case, we will keep that and only give up our second round pick for next year. It's realy not that a bad deal at all for the coach we want, as well still keep our 1st round pick for next year.
