Speaking of the 2004 NL cy young disgrace. The only thing Clemens had an advantage over RJ was the W-L record which as already mentioned was completly misleading by the horrible dbacks offense. TBU had Rocket's number in IP, era, whip, baa, Ks, complete games and shut outs (not to mention Randy's perfect game).

Two years back Bartolo Colon beat out Johan Santana for the Cy Young. Johan had a better statistical year in every category besides wins, which Colon beat him out in by 2 or 3, and Colon got it.

Lackey has the same number of wins as Beckett does, a slightly lower ERA, the same amount of strikeouts as Beckett does. He is doing just as well as what Beckett is doing, so I really don't think it's easily Beckett.

I guess some people are smokin some sh*t, why have I not seen ANDY PETTITTE on people's list? I mean, his ERA went up a bit in his last start because of A HORRIBLEY played ball in CF by Melky Cabrera, he over ran the ball, and it gave up an inside the park home run, which was two more ER and his ERA would still be around 2.7 or 2.8 without that. And, he should have 7 or 8 wins but the bullpen has blown numerous games for him. o and he gets no run support AT ALL when he pitches.

I don't remember. Well that's gay then. :dunno: ERA, WHIP, BAA, K's, BB's...everything is more important than wins but somehow that seems to be the most important pitching stat to everyone. The basketball MVP is not always awarded to the best player, but the Cy Young is supposed to be the best pitcher award. OH sh*t, Johnson vs. Dice K in 10 min!

Tom Gorzelanny should be at least be getting talked about. His ERA is one of the lowest in the NL and I think he has 6 wins, which is awesome considering he pitches for the Pirates.

Hamels is the next guy, IMO.In the AL, it is a mix of guys. C.C. Sabathia, Josh Beckett, and Dan Haren are some of the obvious choices like you mentioned. But if Roger Clemons does good this year, he may win it too with all the media attention in NY. Another person I can see that emerges as an early Cy Young is Fausto Carmona with a 3.11 ERA and a 7-1 record. As of late, Dice-K has heated up. If he has been pitching like he has lately, he would win it too.
[IMG] [IMG] Roger Clemens won't win Cy Young unless he plays lights out for the rest of the season.

With the way the media rides his cock, I wouldn't be surprised if he did get it, and didn't out perform other pitchers. In past history as Diawsome has shown, the best pitcher doesn't always win.

Clemens is gonna have an ERA over 3. He won't win it.
