Agreed. People see Curry's timely steals and think he's a good defender. But he's not - he's passable at best. To me it breaks down like: Kanter does two things extremely well: score + rebound Curry does one thing extremely well: shoot 3s Rodney doesn't do anything extremely well, but he plays at our weakest position and is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades So depending on what you value most an argument can be made for any of them. Shooting - especially in the Stottsfense - is very important. But Kanter is just far and away a much better player than Curry. Meanwhile, Rod can cover both starting and back-up roles at both SG and SF, giving us insurance against injury and flexibility to trade players at those positions.
Meyers and Turner are going to retire soon after our playoff run is over, then we can sign Kanter, Hood, and Curry.
It's weird to be talking about the offseason considering we're up 2-0, but... if I was GM, I would try REALLY hard to have our upcoming offseason not mess up the 2020 offseason. We currently only have $87 mil tied up in 2020. https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/POR.html
Isnt being timely being good at defense? Who cares about effort if its a wiff? Id rather have a guy who uses less effort but is timely with his movements, than someone who puts their all into it and wiffs on plays.
Sorry, you guys are trippin. I asked before and Ill ask again. Of the three players being discussed, who do you think OKC would want the most? 3pt shooting is the biggest asset a player can have in today's nba. Not sure if you can under rate one of the top 5 3pt shooters in the league this season. He doesn't need to make plays. He needs to be spotted up for when Dame and CJ run into trouble. He is the missing link to sink the shots and keep defense honest. He is what we wanted Crabbe to be. He is what we wanted Napier to be. We have been searching for a 40% 3pt shooter off the bench for a few years. Now we have him and he is expendable? Not buying it.
Because defense is more about positioning than and reacting than steals. It's more important to make the opponent's job difficult and prevent them from doing what they want than to force the occasional turnover. However, I also believe that Curry does a pretty decent job of those things as well.
Hey - you're talking to the guy who has never been impressed by Aminu's "effort" - I'm all about "work smarter, not harder". But to answer your first question: no, just getting a few steals doesn't make someone a good defender.
Fair enough,l though I think he moves his feet pretty well and holds his own for the most part. Combine that with his good timing and I dont see him much of a detriment on D and he is lights out on shooting. To me he is a keeper for this team.
Seth is extremely good at shooting wide open 3's. Two of his last 3 years he has shot 45 % (the other year being 42,5%) So he will get paid by someone. I just have no idea how much that will be. I think I would roll the dice with Simons next year for that particular roll and use the MLE on someone else. Kanter has his negatives but I think he is a bigger priority with our Nurk issue. Hood is a nice versatile piece to have on the bench, but he would have to come cheap. I still want a true PG to back up Dame. (Maybe an older vet that is a friend of Dame's who does not need big minutes)
Well simple, they stay on the field more than opposing benches, meaning they play more against other teams' starters. (And Evans ) Minutes by milona posted Apr 19, 2019 at 1:05 PM
Seth consistently comes off the bench ice cold and downs his first shot: a three. And probably his next two as well.
Which makes him half as good as Korver, since Korver was also excellent shooting off the curl. I'd hate to be the team that shells out big bucks for a one-trick pony. We saw how that turned out with Crabbe! And while Crabbe may not have the career consistency that Curry has, he shot essentially the same percentage in his last season with us that Curry is currently shooting. These are minor role players and should be paid as such.
To answer your question, OKC would want Curry the most because they could play him with Westbrook and George. We can play him with Dame and CJ but not for major minutes. I agree we need Curry's shooting off the bench and I would place him higher than Hood on the priority list. But we also need other things too. I want to keep him, I just don't see how.
