Why can't new fences be a separate subject?

Oh well, getting a new fence from Rick's Fencing. By the way, on the side he sells stolen goods.

It's gonna be cedar picture window style. I have to have it stained after one year. Not sure why that is.

It'll be six feet tall and about 300 feet long with two gates.

The cost will be out of sight.

Our old one is falling down.

We do have a second chain link fence outside the wood fence. Don't ask me why, it was that way when we bought the house.

My only question is should I make it a good neighbor fence the way I want it or face the nice side inward toward our house the way my wife wants it?

And people said I couldn't be petty.

Do what the wife wants. You'll be happy because she's happy. I would not want to venture on the other side of that fence. Haha.

Get a Gentrification Fence to attract hipsters to your neighborhood.

You will want to check with Rick's fencing as each city might have regulations regarding where a fence can be placed, how high a fence can be (it varies by location of the fence) and even what side of the fence you have to have towards the neighbor. Some cities require the best side to be on the neighbors side. If that's the case, then I would go with a good neighbor fence which is the same on both sides and very pleasing. A lattice top can be appealing with that style of fence. I built fences for a couple years for Joe Etzel who was my baseball coach at U of P as well as the athletic director and in the summer he ran a crew of baseball players to build fences. Here's an example of a good neighbor fence with a lattice top.

If you love and appreciate your wife, whom I have the impression of as your full-time caretaker, we can probably close this thread right now. :dunno:

Keep in mind the smooth side draws the moisture from the rough side.

State building code says no permit required for a new fence that's six feet or less and no permit required to replace something for which a permit was used previously so we have no problem there. Our city does not impose anything other than the State building code for fences. Plus Rick's knows all the local codes in this area. We're good there.

Not gonna have no lattice top. 1. It costs extra; 2. Our squirrels, who bring us a lot of pleasure (oh, people, people, not that kind of pleasure. And, dammit, would you guys please forget the regrettable incident with me and Sly and our visit to the farm animals? That was a long time ago.), run along the top of our fence and we don't want to mess with the height.

Lastly, the good side of the fence faces inward toward our house now so no problem with facing the fence any way we want.

    Yep, ours will be vertical.
It's pretty much the same as what we've got except ours is all gray and starting to rot at the bottom as well as falling down in sections. I also believe, although I may be wrong, that ours will be more sturdy than the last one.

Would she be open to a suggestion of a second husband? I love a good smoothie. What? You object? Don't be greedy.

Another thing regarding staining then fence, cedar retains a lot of moisture and won't take the stain properly if it isn't dry.

That must be why they ask us to wait a year before staining.
They used to kiln dry wood but for a long time now they quit doing that and wood when delivered has a significant amount of moisture in it that needs to be dried out.

Hey, that's what my wife said. However, I'm ignoring her and going ahead. Anyhow, for her it's to keep the White people out.

A fence is not a living thing so therefore a fence can't be racist. :bgrin:
