John Havlicek passed away today. Top 50 all time player and a great ambassador for the NBA and Celtics. RIP.
Incredible player. I remember a playoff game agains the Knicks where his shoulder was so sore he couldn't lift his shooting arm above his shoulder. They asked a Knick, and I think it was Wilis Reed, how he though Havlicek would play. Reed replied that if he knew Havlicek, he would score I dunno 30 or 40 with underhanded scoops shots. Guess what. That's what Havlicek did. You've never seen a more gritty performance.
On a related note (if you read his piece he links to in the tweet), you also forget how great a sportswriter Bill is/was. RIP Hondo.
Another childhood favorite. Never rooted for those Celtic teams, but that guy was awesome. Who'll ever forget Johnny Most's: "Havlicek stole the ball!!!"
He was a hell of a player as I remember watching him on TV as the Celtics often played the one game a week TV game. I was a huge Sixers fan in those days and always had a hard time getting past those Celtics.
