I think we had a thread on this last year but thought I'd start a new one. What active players do you think will make the Hall if they retired today? You can also state those that you think might make it based on how you think their careers will progress.I think Ray Allen was a big talking point last time, with many saying he will make it and many saying he doesn't have a chance.
You can go thru the players that will of course make it (Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Gary Payton, etc.)And the new stars on the rise (barring no career ending injury) like LBJ and Wade. But, I think that Ray Allen has a chance, not as much as a Reggie Miller (He's essentially a lock), but he does have a chance. Players like Robert Horry, are kind of hard IMO, their stats aren't great, but the championships just come to them, and are clutch performers.
Hmmm, off the top of my head...Kobe, Duncan, Shaq, Iverson, Kidd, Nash, GP, T-Mac, Dirk, KG, Ray Allen, Grant Hill, Mutombo, Ben Wallace, Webber....If they play another few seasons, then LeBron and Wade are locks.
^I don't think Webber, Grant Hill, Mutombo, Ray Allen, Ben Wallace will make it.My list:KobeDuncanShaqDirkNashKiddGary PaytonDwyaneLeBronIversonKevin GarnettNot sure about yet because they're not winners yet:T-MacWebberGrant HillVince CarterChris BoshCarmelo Anthony

Grant Hill was one of the best players in the '90's. Ray Allen is one of the best 3pt shooters in league history and that legacy is still growing. Wallace has a few DPOY awards, rebounding title and an NBA title which makes him a lock IMO. Mutombo has had a very good career, DPOY award and like 3rd all time in blocks. And to your list, T-Mac is a virtual lock since he is a back to back scoring champ and consistently argued as an MVP candidate and best perimeter player in the game.
Ignoring all of the young players who are still 10+ years away from judgement (Lebron, Wade etc...)Locks:Tim DuncanShaqSteve NashKevin GarnettAllen IversonJason KiddKobe BryantGary PaytonDirk NowitzkiBorderline:Chris Webber (injuries)Grant Hill (injuries)Tracy McGrady (playoff failures)Needs something moreRay AllenPaul Pierce Robert HorryAlonzo MourningDikembe MutomboRobert HorryBen WallaceA few years awayElton BrandChauncey BillupsJermaine O'NealBaron Davis Shawn MarionVince Carter
I wouldn't pick guys like Elton Brand, Marion, Jermaine O'neal and Vince Carter because they haven't shown they are winners YET.
I just can't see Allen make it. Maybe if he stays at his current level for another 5 years but not now.Hill probably won't make it because he had a good part of his career taken away because of injuries. Webber is boarderline as is Ben Wallace. If Horry makes it I'll have to kill something, there is no way that guy is HOF material.

As they stand none of them would get in but they all have had successful careers that could lead to a chance with championships or individual awards and have the time to achieve such goals.

I just had to say that, because if Allen makes it, Pierce should. Peirce is the better all-around player and always has been.

I think that will be enough to possibly get him into the HoF. Pierce just doesn't stand out in any way to the rest of the great swingmen of the league.
Why wouldn't Dikembe Mutombo deserve to make it? He is probably the best shot blocker of the '90s next to Olajuwan and what he does for his home country is amazing. List:Kobe BryantShaquille O'NealTim DuncanKevin GarnettSteve NashJason KiddDirk NowitzkiRay Allen- Why not? He is the second-all time in 3 pointers and holds the single season recordAlonzo MourningGrant Hill

He played in his prime with David Robinson, Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwan, Alonzo Mourning and Shaq, not to mention the likes of Karl Malone, Dennis Rodman and Charles Barkley all playing the 4. The only one on the list who you could put Mutombo ahead of would be Zo which means there were still 4 other centers ahead of him during his own peak years. Whether it is fair or not this is something that voters look at, where he ranked compared to his peers.

He has been all star and all defense several times. Statistically, he is very good in a bunch of different categories. He has had good longevity and is well-liked. I could see him going either way.

Dirk has never won any titles, sure he has an MVP, but plenty of MVP's don't make it in. Ray Allen is 2nd all time in 3 pointers and has the record for single season threes. If he wasn't on a sh*tty team all his career, he would have won a championship and if he gets traded he still can win one.
