Saw this on another forum, liked the debate. For me it is Barry Sanders. Barry Sanders is 1500 yards short of Walter Peyton and if he had played 2-3 more years in the NFL (ended his career when he was still playing great) He would have passed Walter. He holds the record for most 1500 yard seasons at 5. He also rushed for 100 yards 76 times, Walter did it 77 and Emmit 78. Once again if he would have played longer he could have easily passed Walter and this time Emmit. He also rushed for 2000 yards in a season twice, Walter Payton never did that.Barry Sanders was a more explosive, agile, speedy runner than anybody ever to touch the football. His moves were unbelievable. He singlehandedly took at team that without him would have been a below .500 team to the playoffs. Their offensive line was also terrible, unlike Walter Payton who played with one of the greatest teams ever.

Barry Sanders was an unbelievable athlete, he just happened to be drafted by the lions. If he had ended up on a better team im sure he would be recognized as probably the greatest football player ever. Yes id take him over Walter Payton.

For a guy who basically worshiped the guy, and watched him play, I'm going with Barry.

Barry Sanders. I didn't get to watch Walter Payton but I luckily got to watch Barry Sanders. He is the greatest back of all-time. He would of broken all of Walter/Emmitt's records had he played for another 3/4 years. Emmitt broke the rushing yards records in 3-4 more years than Barry played and I believe Barry is at a close 3rd. He would of shattered all the records. Unfortunately he was on the Lions and not a winnner or a team that cared.
