Might have to bring out the Meltdown thread? http://www.sportstwo.com/threads/meltdown-thread.323091/page-22#post-4705221
Im honestly not... I am not even that upset, were missing our second best player and I expect the Blazers to still make it a series, but I really look at our roster and I don't think we can guard them. If we get more from our forwards we might be able to just out score them. Their defense isnt very good either.
It's a different series with different matchups, the starting lineup wasn't working throughout the game, do you expect us to make changes only after losing 4?
I agree, and if we had him in earlier in the 3rd Q and shooting more we could have scored 9 additional points and perhaps earned foul calls against Jokic. Meyers was good defensively, and with 8-10 additional min of additional hustle could have added the points to keep us in the game. Having Meyers and Zach in together can thwart Jokic and Milsap and get wins. Let's use plays to maximize swish3 scoring (adding to Dame and CJ) with plays for Meyers and Seth to take advantage of our 45% swish3 shooting talent! In the next DEN games, our strategy should be to get Jokic in foul trouble, make at least 2 more swish3s than DEN, and use off-ball floor running patterns that favor assist passes to our best swiish3 shooting talent,, and DEN can be beaten.
Outscoring them is the way yes. They can't stop Jokic. They will have to stop the rest and outscore the Nuggets. The crazy part is they still hit over 37% from 3. Blazers can beat this team but they need to score the ball.
Some people don't understand that different matchups are important but they also depend on who is available. You do realize that the first thing the coach has to look at is who is gonna officiate the game. Just like players there are reports on refs. We do it as fans. What would make you think coaches don't do it? Then you stay with what worked and make small changes to what did not. Not gonna continue this conversation with you after a 7 point loss that could have been much different had a few free throws gone and a couple of calls didn't go their way putting them on the line to score. One more 3 goes in the final minute and that game is way different. Blazers will make some small changes. Stotts will coach. Bet on it.
Sure bring in the absolute worst stat around to make some kind of argument to try and feel like you have a point. He scored 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in a game that they were in a position to compete in at the end. He did it with a separated shoulder. Try to keep up here. The Blazers don't have any more centers other than Meyers and Collins and Skal. None of them will bring what Kanter brings.
Actually at the end of the game when he was playing they lost by 7. There is the only plus minus that makes any difference. Take care. Enjoy your thread.
+/- for a single game is such a stupid fucking stat Dame was -6; Zach was +4. who played better tonight? using your logic Dame should sit the next game and Zach should run the offense
How exactly is it a stupid stat? Explain this logic. You'll see in all my posts that I'm advocating playing Zach more, that the team does better with him on the floor. That's meaningless to you?
Enes had an excellent game with 26 points on 11 of 14 FG shooting and 7 rebounds. But with the injury he could have been supplemented with more min from Meyers who played well in only 12 min. Resting Enes and adding stronger hustle defense would have made us even more competitive, adding 8+ points that would have made us the winner. Meyers and Zach (with excellent contributions by Rod) can add determined defense, fresh energy, boost the scoring by Dame, CJ, and Enes, and help us win 4 over DEN.
We played like a team that’s been sitting a week and with a center that has an injury. We were off. Turnovers showed this. I really don’t think Denver is all that great. Adjustments: Turner played well against Milsap. Collins played decent. Both Aminu and Harkless were out of sorts - especially Aminu! Somehow I think our small forward player can hurt them; Hood did well. Maybe Jake should get some burn. Unfortunately, Harkless may not be the best for this series. He poses no offensive threat. More...I like Leonard’s minutes as he’s able to put a body on Jokic. He might be able to wear him down a bit. Their larger guards rendered Curry useless. Finally, CJ needs to come out aggressive. I predict we win each game whereby CJ outscores Dame and/or Aminu scores 18+ points. PS: Kanter is impressive! Great game by him.
Harkless was stellar in Game 5, especially in the last 7 minutes. No need to rock the boat now just because of one loss.
plus/minus for any single game has way too much noise to draw any conclusions from. A player who logs 10 minutes, has 1 rebound and 0 points can often have better +/- then a player who plays 36 minutes and score 40 points on 60% shooting. For instance, on Mar 7, Dame scored 51 point and had 9 assists. Mo scored 2 points and had 3 rebounds. Dame had a -5 in 47 minutes; Mo had a + 6 in 21 minutes. The plus/minus was worthless but since you're a Zach fan who loves plus/minus, you can have the net on-off plus/minus for the OKC series: Damian Lillard +37.5 Meyers Leonard +12.9 Al-Farouq Aminu +9.7 Enes Kanter +8.1 Maurice Harkless +7.7 CJ McCollum +5.3 Seth Curry 0.0 Rodney Hood -12.0 Evan Turner -19.9 Zach Collins -32.1 how do you like plus/minus now?
