This is why CC shouldn’t have been planned for in the rotation. He can only give you 5 innings max and the depletes the shaky ass bullpen. CC should’ve been signed as a long reliever and we should have gone out and acquired another pitcher. Instead we get CC for 5 and then piece meal together 4 innings and wear out the bullpen, which has been atrocious to say the least. This game is the perfect example of the ineptitude of this pitching staff/coach. Unreal. Up 7-0 and it’s now a close game.
Even before injuries to the starters, this team needed another starter ( and I do not mean a 5th starter ).
....^^^ I was disappointed when they re-signed CC for this year. Knowing his slot would take up a legit Starter's role; since CC can only throw 5 Innings max before he implodes. Trashman imo; is as inept as anyone for giving him this last year; and imo such is no different than failing to admit a shortcoming from the start. A long reliever is what his role should of been defined as when he was given this season. Of course apologist would say but look at the decimated pitching staff; when the problem is as due to failing to ensure a solid 1-5 SP staff existed to begin with.... tho' I blame Trashman; the entire Coaching staff; from BaBoone to Rothschild have shown us a meltdown of logic when it comes to handling pitching at any level; in any situation; or recognize talent when they see it. From the Owners/GM's office on high to the Field below; these guys don't know pitching at any level....
Some of us miss watching Complete Game; and old time Pitchers of the 60's-70's; when SP's were expected to clean up their own mess(es) and Relievers were just beginning to come into their own; i.e. Rollie Fingers etc etc. Even tho' guys like Ryne Duren were around b4 Rollie; that time and era was mind boggling by todays watered down standards. A guy who threw barely 5 Innings back then was called a middle reliever; not a starter!!!!! Wish you could of seen Marichal vs Spahn; a 16 Innning tireless affair of supreme pitching at another level; and another dear ear bygone.... July 2, 1963. I was a kid; but I'll never forget it. This is a different era of Pitchers; uncomparable to prior amd imo pussified watered down SP's...
Game Recap- Although (no longer a) "King" or "Prince" Felix was 10/7 vs the Yanx with a 5.xx+ ERA; he was 6-1 in the Bronx; with a ERA of 1.4x The King has no clothes; and is now a Peasant. In this game alone his ERA would be in excess of 13.xx A nice win for the Yanx; proving these last 4 games; they can beat teams above .500 and make 'em look silly too.
Big Al- Here's a pretty good story that kind of sums up many's point of view, and the article includes CC Sabthia from 10 years ago. Why so few less innings????
Do we really have to answer why he isnt the same pitcher as he was 10 years ago? Pitching back on the spahn and gibson days were pretty different back then. Strike zones were bigger..pitching mound higher...speeds lower...pitching inside was allowed...ball parks bigger... P The fact is CC while not the pitcher he once was is still a serviceable 5th starter. People need to stop comparing him to top of the rotation guys and look at where he fits with other 5th starters..and he is average
I forgot to attach the article. The case in point was in his article they're talking about CeCe 10 years ago not throwing very many pitches. So yes we should compare a cc 10 years ago to other amazing pitchers. I will post the article as a new Post in a couple of hours
