I think it's a lie

I think Durant injured his Achilles and they're lying.
I guess we'll find out. I don't want to be one to wish harm on another person, but I guess if we're talking about something that has already occurred, perhaps it's OK to say that I hope you're right?

Nah, I still can't do it. Regardless of how much I dislike Kevin Durant, I hope that they're not lying, and that it's only a calf strain. I do hope, however, that he misses the first two games, and that we're able to secure at least one of them.

They said he has had it before. They also said he knew what it was when it happened and it kept him from injuring it further.
I'm not sure they are lying about the type of injury. But i'm pretty sure the timetable is sketchy.

No ill will here but I have been suspecting the same thing. Not torn achilles but strained. Not the calf. I can't say why just a feeling. The way he reacted just didn't look calf at all.

OK, good call. Like I said, was just a gut feeling probably due to the overreaction of everyone at the time.
Edited my initial post. Aminu was out nearly a month, not just a few weeks. I read recently that the severity of the strain is very important in determining how long they're out. No word on how severe KD's injury is.

The thing with calf and achilles strains is, the two often happen in conjunction and you don't notice one until the other eases up. So, there are all sorts of ways you can look at the team's statements that may be equally correct.

EXACTLY! I strained/torn my calf last fall running, and I thought it was cramps, because those injuries aren't sudden like that. I didn't look back like what-just-happened did-a-snake-bite-me as people often do when they injure their Achilles.

What’s the point of lying? I understand why football teams do it, but stotts wouldn’t change his lineup before and he won’t now.

To try and maintain an image of strength. They lost two games apiece to the Clippers and Rockets. They are showing cracks. Hearing Durant has an achilles injury and that he will be out longer will embolden the Blazers. Hearing he will be back is an attempt to get into the Blazers's heads.

When I tore my calf I didn't look back but I certainly thought I got hit by a truck...

How Dare You insinuate the Blazers are not bold AF.

Meh. I want to Durant to play.

I don’t need anyone saying, “the Blazers only won it all because Durant was injured.”

I know Nurk is out, but I want to beat them as a whole.

Lebron beat an injured Warriors team. It may be the only way to get past them. Besides without Nurkic, I kind of see it as evening things up a bit.

I expect the announcers and pundits to talk about Durant's absence nonstop. After we win the series, a lot of people will attach an asterisk. Which is ridiculous because I doubt anyone would give GS an asterisk in consideration of Nurk's, Kanter's, and Hood's injuries. Oh, well.

it would set a reckless precedence if they lied. Don't think GS works like that.

I want us to beat GS so that the national media will predict that we'll finish 6th or 7th in the west next year instead of out of the playoffs :)

Why do you think that it was his Achilles?

At some point every guy that has an Achilles they look back like "who kicked me?".

Durant does that. Plus he's holding beneath his calf. Not his actual calf.

I don't believe them. I think they want us to scheme for Durant being there when he won't be.

Bruh... You know me...

I WANNA BEAT DURANT.

I like to beat teams full strength. IDGAF who we play. I never do. You gotta beat the best to be the best.

I want Durant to play!

Exactly.

But Durant will be gone next year. So they’ll be even less next year (but I don’t expect us to have Hood, Kanter, or Curry).

Jokes on them. Stotts don't scheme.

They are allowed to lie about anything pretty much except injuries. Casinos ain’t having it. It’s a calf strain for sure, the severity is the only question. Likely a “it could miraculously get better” type thing, but aren’t they saying the same thing about boogie? From the injuries they have, anyone have any insight on recovery time? Like @yuyuza1 said, we can relate this to aminu, and guess a month or so. What about boogies?

If he was for sure out for the series, the casinos would be the first to know. Any betting sharps in here? Have the lines moved?

I just feel we should be able to come to a reasonable assumption on timeframe given the info we have, and not have to wildly speculate. A thread hashing this out in the OP would be appreciated.

I’d guess they are not allowed to say “he is out for the series” and then have him end up playing. So if there is a chance, even 1%, they are going to keep the updates vague.
