<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>If KG's not going to Chicago, where could he go? From what I'm hearing -- and at this point it's just a hot rumor -- the Wolves and Boston Celtics talking about a Garnett deal. In this scenario, Boston would send Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and change to Minnesota along with the No. 5 pick in the upcoming draft. In exchange, the Celtics would get Garnett. When he asked Ainge about it, he got the standard "we don't talk about trades" answer, but said no deals are close to happening.I think for a lot of people, the deal breaker here is Al Jefferson. If he's in the deal, a lot of Celtics fans don't want it. If he isn't in the deal, its an absolute no-brainer. On the other hand, if he's not in the deal, is Ainge even on the phone with McHale? Of course, I'm torn. KG has been my obsession for 2 years now. Still, giving up Jefferson seems like a deal breaker. I think.Chad also brings up the point that KG can opt out of his deal after this year and the Celts won't have a chance to negotiate with him till after July 1st if they trade for him. So any deal before the draft is going to be risky to say the least.</div>I doubt this is anything more than pure speculation or a smokescreen. This trade would be absolutely horrible, especially if either Lewis or Johnson are available at the rumored prices. We'd be left with KG and Pierce with very little around them. The team would have no future, and it'd need to win immediately for it to be worthwhile. If they can get it done without giving up Jefferson AND #5 then it may be something to consider, but I still like the Lewis and Johnson deals much better. Thoughts?

The KG deal is a no brainer if Jefferson's not included. I'd even include a future draft pick if Jefferson is thrown out of the deal.Let's be real though guys. We aren't getting KG and neither is anybody else.

This is another dumb misleading article by ESPN. I hate these stupid manager source told me, team source, rumor mill nonsense. None of the rumors ever have any legitmacy when comparing it to what actually goes down. We've been hearing KG to Boston for two years now.

Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, and the #5 pick for a 31 year old star who could very well opt out of his contract in 2 years anyway? No thanks, we are giving up way too much young talent. No 31 year old star has been dealt for that much, as they shouldn't. I would not give up Big Al in a deal for KG.

Theo, Green, West, #5, and Telfair is enough young talent in exchange for a star on the decline.

Even Ainge isn't that dumb. I think Minnesota should have traded KG 2 seasons ago...the market isn't nearly as big for him now. Now you have no time to build around him..now he has to be the piece which makes you a contender or it's not worth it. Meaning you can't give up to many pieces for him.

Anything is possible.

KG could fit well in Boston but Boston could use any star player right now. They are a young team but just when you think they are going in the right direction they take another step back. I have a feeling they are getting closer to breaking out though. I predict before 09 they at least win one playoff series.

well I think Chad Ford is an idiot, he did say it was just a hot rumor and therefore nothing substantial.. ie he was being a HS girl and passing on gossip, true or not.I'd give up the #5 Theo and spare parts for KG, but no way in hell any of the starting 5.well, perkins could go I guess. but not as part of 5 or 6 players.

As a Raps fan I hope he doesn't because then that makes Boston more of a contender!

There is no way I would be happy with that. The C's must keep Big Al!

Ainge confirmed the rumors but the way he talks it has no credibility in terms of us being interested.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Celtics director of basketball operations Danny Ainge acknowledged yesterday that he has talked with the Minnesota Timberwolves about a potential trade for Kevin Garnett. However, Ainge refused to comment about a published report that had the Celts shipping Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff and the fifth pick in next week?s NBA draft for the All-Star forward. A league source confirmed the teams have talked but are not close to a deal. Ainge added that based on conversations and calls from other teams, he has not heard a proposal that would make him part with the No. 5 pick. ?A lot of people attempt to make trades for that pick that are one-sided,? he said. ?So there?s nothing going on for the pick yet.?</div>http://celtics.bostonherald.com/celtics/vi...ticleid=1007207

I think it was stupid for KG to accept this original contract by Minnesota in the first place. What type of idiot thinks the Wolves will get enough money to sign an even decent second option when KG is getting paid the most in the league. It just shows that he did it for the money. He would've been great for Boston, especially 2 years ago.

Ugh, Sean Grande was on FSN Sports Tonight last night, and he said he would do this deal. His reasoning was "People are too caught up with the potential of Al Jefferson, and they won't face reality. Al Jefferson... MAY turn out to be less of what Garnett is right now. You have to pull the trigger."

OK Grande, you dork... First of all, did you not realize what Al did last year and what he's capable of? And secondly, who would you rather have 2 years from now.... a 24 year old Al Jefferson or a 33 year old Kevin Garnett with an opt-out option? That's what I thought.

I am not saying we should trade Al in a package for him but KG, P2, Green, Allen, and Rondo could make us a 2nd/3rd seed in the East.

I'm not questioning the fact that we would be an Eastern Conference contender next year if we did this deal, but it's not all about next year. If we do this deal, we'd be 2002 all over again... have a good veteran team to compete, then they'd all decline and we'd have to build again.

    2 years from now
Al Jefferson - 24 years old, not even in his prime
Kevin Garnett - 33 years old, declining, and has an opt-out option

    5 years from now
Al Jefferson - 27 years old, just entering his prime
Kevin Garnett - 36 years old, not the same player he is now, and nearing retirement

Sure, this deal is outstanding for the short-term, but you won't feel good 5 years from now when both Pierce and Garnett are mulling retirement and Al Jefferson in his prime in Minnesota.

Also, I'm sure will be getting much better players when Garnett is 36 years old. What if Gerald turns into a real offensive weapon and starts scoring 25/26 a night with Pierce and Garnett averaging 21 and 22 in three years down the road. Plus, Rondo will be pouring in about 16 points/8 assists and 6 rebounds a game along with great defense. Bringing in Garnett would make the Celtics a much more dangerous team.

At the very least it's been reported that KG will have input into where he gets traded. If he flat out tells the team interested in him he won't resign then I doubt that team would take him.and yes it's always safer to have youth and potential rather than going for it now. But who's to say how much better other teams will be. Maybe Oden, R.O.Y and Aldridge won't be a mini-dynasty team and unbeatable like the 2000-2002 Lakers or Spurs?sometimes if you can get an elite player and add him to your top player, then you take a shot at it.on the other hand, KG has not been able to lead his team to the playoffs the last 3 years. Granted the west it mega tough and it's not all his fault, but Kobe has led his sh*tty team to the playoffs at least. What's to say KG would be the guy to put the C's over.Passing on KG is a gamble and trading for him is a gamble too.I just don't think we give up Al and the #5. I'd rather give up the #5 and Green, Theo and whomever else they want not named Al, Paul or Rajon. If we made the finals and had a shot at a title (let alone win one) wouldn't that be worth it?Also, who's to say that the current talent on this team is gonna get better than it currently is? Maybe Rondo doesn't develop a jumper, he remains inconsistent at running the team and teams figure out a way make him ineffective. Green doesn't ever get a basketball IQ, Allen isn't the same after his knee injury and Delonte West still isn't good enough to start as a PG or SG?sh*t happens, it's not impossible.it's a tempting call and tough call. I think Ainge should lower the offer and if Minny doesn't do it without Al, Danny should move on.
