He was the absolute perfect piece for this team. He is one of the best corner 3pt shooters in the league. Encouraging to hear that we were after him.
I know it doesn't seem like it, but Harkless is a far worse shooter than Aminu. Aminu actually shot above 45% from the the corner last season. He reverted back to the low 30s this season. Porter has consistently been around 45% all throughout his career on high volume.
Yes, Aminu 3s in the Playoffs = 29%, Harkless 3s in the Playoffs 25%, i'll never forget when Harkless shot a wide wide open 3 against the Warriors and didn't even hit the rim... they both suck
Yeah I would've loved to get him if we kept our core. But I'm sick of hearing we we're "close" to these types of moves. Just like Paul George. We desperately need new forwards next season. Also none of this stuff where guys become a starter by default and then are entitled to the position.
On one hand, it's great that we tried. On the other hand....look what Porter was traded for: Jabari Parker (expiring), Bobby Portis (OK Player but RFA). He was basically traded for cap relief. If Neil had some foresight and signed even some of the players in 2016 to 3 year deals instead of 4 year deals maybe we would have Otto Porter on this team now...
The knock on Porter is his massive contract. We got Hood for a fraction of the cost and pretty decent production. But I agree. Neil shoulda staggered these 2016 contracts to allow for some flexibility. That said, I wonder if we can get a Porter-esque player this summer.
I'm looking at guys on huge contracts that are clearly overpaid: Gordon Hayward Andrew Wiggins Chandler Parsons Harrison Barnes Danilo Gallinari? Evan Fournier Will Barton Only player I think we could get from that group is Wiggins, Parsons and maybe Hayward. This sounds absolutely batshit, and I know 99% of people are gonna think I'm crazy, but if Dame signs the supermax, I think we should make a play at Wiggins. Could probably get him for just our expirings. He's an upgrade over either of our forwards even if he don't give a single shit. He's got crazy defensive potential, and I'd bet on Dame's leadership being able to motivate him into a fringe all-star type player. Basically under the premise that when Dame's supermax kicks in we're gonna be capped out every year anyways. Wiggins is young (24), its unlikely he declines over the course of this contract.
