If you’re looking for comfort then thoughts and prayers are great I guess. If you’re looking for someone to make a change they are useless. If my kid was shot in school and some politician said thoughts and prayers it would not console me.
Well if they went and changed every law to be exactly what you wanted tomorrow it wouldn't bring your kid back either. People can do both, support and let people know they are there for them if they need, and try to enact change. It’s not like they are mutually exclusive things. I bet if your kid was shot it would be extremely helpful to you for people to show they supported you, (no matter your feelings on prayer).

Read yahoo articles on any type of shooting and invariably if it is a black guy all the comments are 13/90 (something about 13 percent of the population commits 90 percent of crimes or murders which I doubt is true but whatever) OR If it is a white guy all the comments are (oh look, another crazy white boy the real domestic terrorists) EVERY FUCKING TIME. Which is why every time this happens I'm praying that it isn't a white guy. Anything but a white guy. A white woman would even be fine. What I'd rather do is wake up 3 years from now and think hey I don't remember the last mass shooting..... Thoughts and prayers are obviously not doing jack shit so everyone needs to work together and figure out what we can do. Or we can just point fingers at each other.

Money, schools and access to mental health help and shit like that. If our country was all white or all black and nothing else changed does anyone think all gun deaths would end? No way. People would still be marginalized and poor. They'd just all be the same skin tone. That doesn't even take into account my belief that toxins in our environment are part of the problem.

When a mass shooting occurs people of all colors and races get shot. Its not just black people shooting white people and white people shooting black people.
