Welp, add Mike Richman to the long list of media who don't know what the fuck they're talking about. Seriously, anyone that doesn't think people on this forum can do just as good of a job as some of these hacks doesn't know what they are talking about either.

The TPE can't be combined to bring in a player that made more than $13 million. Kevin Love makes over $20 million.

    So stupid.

    Fucking Morons.

So, knowing NO is pretty good with the CBA, he likely never did make this call huh?

No, I'm 100% sure that Olshey has inquired about Love, especially in the timeline Richman provided after LeBron left but before Love signed the extension.

What is more likely is that we offered to use the TPE to take a bad contract in addition to the Love trade to incentivize them to do it. However most of Cleveland's bad contracts were more than the TPE too except for Clarkson or Korver but both are probably worth more than just salary dumps. The fact Richman says they moved on to other big names makes me think he has no clue.

He offered the trade exception, which he can't do there. Settle down

Richman might have the dates and vehicles messed up, but Olshey mentioned they had some deals in the works at the deadline that involved big salaries that ultimately didn’t get done, but that the players they were interested in ending up not getting moved. Kevin Love fits the bill, and I could see it getting revisited again this summer. Love fits Stotts perfectly and fills an area of need. Cleveland should also be interested in dumping Loves contract and we have the expirings to make it work. Would probably cost us Simons, or at minimum, a first.

Its funny how it's always something that "almost gets done".

I want someone who can get things done.

I think that’s the way things work in the NBA. GM’s talk all the time pitching trade ideas, but only a small percentage actually work out to both teams’ advantage and get done. Glad to hear Olshey is doing his job. Getting Hood and Kanter for basically nothing shows that he can make things happen. Hope he finds s bigger move this summer.

Nah man, Richman specifically mentions the TPE and how we were trying to use it for a big money player.

    He's stupid.

Dude lucked into Kanter. All he got done was acquiring a role player who has no bird rights. Congrats.

I'm talking about trades that acquire legitimate talent. Big time trades. Its always "he called" and then people celebrate because "oh, he is trying!"

Doesn't even matter if he's good with CBA or not, every half clued fan will know about the rule. And he's basically getting paid to know these rules.

stopped reading after that. The most boring thing to read on this forum is “he lucked into _____” every time a player he acquires succeeds (but if they fail it’s all his fault) It just makes you look like a dumbass.

Kanter was big against the Thunder and we don’t get past the Nuggets without Hood, who you conveniently left out. We’ll see what happens this summer. I’ll save the crying for after.

Okay, when before has the strategy of beating out the Lakers worked for us?

Did Olshey not have to rely on Kanter soing something no player has ever done in the history of the NBA?

Was there actual GM skill involved in simply asking Kanter if he wanted to join our team?

Yes he was big down the stretch for us, I dont think amyone is arguing that.

And I wouldnt have faulted him for Hood, Kanter, or Curry if they failed. There were reasons to take those gambles (which were low-risk) if they paid off or not.

I said I want someone whos able to swing trades for serious upgrades (that are, ya know, better than Rodney Hood). You misinterpreting that context and trying to apply lesser acquisitions with completely different circumstances isnt my problem.

Funny how so many people seem to “misinterpret” you huh? Maybe it is your problem.

I listened to the actual podcast. Richman never said that. He said they explored using the TPE or players to try to get Love before his contract expired last year. This is an aggregation issue. Richman is actually pretty good with this stuff.
