Do you guys think Kwame Brown would've been a bust no matter who had picked him, or do you think he could've been a better player if someone else had picked him.I think Kwame could be a better player, not as good as people said he would be, but still good if he hadn't been picked by the Wizards. I think that there was so much hype surrounding MJ and MJ put so much pressure on him that it was near impossible to succeed. I think he could be a much better player today. Yes, I know he is considered weak in many parts, but I think that was mostly do to lack of cofidence and the media searching for reasons for him faltering. I still don't see him have being that great due to his lack of hand size and weak work ethicWhat do you guys think?
When your a guy like Kwame Brown, who clearly doesn't love the game and really want to improve, then it doesn't matter who your playing for. He could have been in a better situation but the end result would have been similar.
He's faired better in the Lakers system far more than he ever did in Washington, and like BCB said, if he were in a better situation, who knows, but I don't think he'll ever be anything special.
Yep. He was overhyped to begin with.He went over Tyson Chandler, Pau Gasol, Eddy Curry, J Rich, Shane Battier, Joe Johnson, Gerald Wallace, Tony Parker, Gilbert Arenas AND Brian ScalabrineHe has no drive/work ethic and really hasn't "thrived" in LA. Of course you're gonna be okay in your 5th year. He was a bust though. Overhyped highschooler. Typical

If I was that tall, id work hard to the best player. He's just a waste of height. he should give it to me and we can trade height.
Kwame Brown isnt that bad of a player. He did score 30 on the suns this year if I remember right. He is also an above average post defender and a decent scorer/rebounder. Overall he is just an average player, no better no worse.
I'm not trying to make exuses for him, but he's had a lot of things holding him back. He was verbally and physically abused as a kid so walking into a situation where as a 19 year old out on his own for the first time he gets verbally attacked by Michael Jordan every time he messes up doesn't help. Once Jordan left he actually played pretty well. He averaged 11 and 7 in his first season without MJ, that's pretty good for a 21 year old when you couple in his defense. But he broke his hand for the 03/04 season and never really returned in Washington. When he came to LA, it took him a while but he was really starting to show how good of a player he was during the end of last season. But then he got hurt again and had to have surgery which slowed him down at the start of this year. Again, he got on the right track and was playing well until he severely sprained his ankle and never fully recovered.I know everyone has problems and injuries, but for someone as mentally weak as Kwame to have the problems he's had at the times he's had them, it's no wonder he hasn't had a good career.
I think things would have been a little different for him had he not gone #1. He would have had less pressure and may have been able to have a chance to develop. You can't blame his current situation on his draft number but I think it may have been a little better for him had he not been the #1 pick.
If you look at Kwame on the court you'd see that he is not a very confident player. You can see it in his eyes and the way he plays. The crowd even has to get loud and cheer him on to make good moves in the post.
Kwame would've been bad either way.1. Bad work ethic2. Unusually tiny and weak hands3. Low basketball IQOn defense though I'm sure he can be good. But it's hard to feed him the ball on offense with hands like that. But he's a decent guy on the post when he holds on to the ball. He's pretty damn strong and once he gets position he's unstoppable because he's deceptively quick. But I agree with the guy above me. His main weakness is confidence.

Sometimes he has no confidence out there and it's very hard for him to work himself out of that, but other times (such as Game 3 this year) he plays with a lot of confidence.
Kwame Brown played a huge role in the Wizards success today. After being drafted to our squad it was apparent that he had no confidence and was afraid to be physical. The Washington coaching staff was willing to put up with this however Jordan would give Kwame plenty of problems during practices. When Jordan left, Kwame had a good year (03-04) and Wizards fans finally started to believe he was going to begin to live up to the hype. However an early season injury in 04-05 and a post-season argument with Gilbert Arenas sent him out of Washington bringing in Caron Butler. Butler is now an all-star, he is doing a great job bringing the Wizards to the playoffs every season. Kwame's confidence went down after the trade and has yet to go up. I feel sorry for Lakers fans, he's become a hopeless project.
Man who knows.. I would of thought playing with jordan could of help him.. But even when jordan was either talkin or screamin at him, Brown never seemed like he even cared
He was a typical loser with no work ethic coming out of high school. He showed no love for the game and he didn't care about anyone but himself. He had great size for a PF/C, but if he actually improved on specific aspects of his game then he could have been the exact opposite of what he is today.

And he was playing with confidence before his ankle injury this year, and he was dominant at times during the playoffs.

On the offensive end he is still a liablility. However, you have to expect these consistent injuries now. Kwame has been through too much criticism and bashing through his career to play with the confidence a NBA player needs. He's not a scrub but he's far from a great role player. Don't expect Kwame to play at the same level he played at the beggining of last season.
