Since there is no game for the next two days; I'm going thru a ton of old Memorabilia I've collected over 55 years. I have several boxes of Yankees Only Memorabilia; which is ten feet back and under six feet of other boxes; in my walkin closet; which is almost impossible to get too without a major days work or three. I've got the Scorecard to Koufax's Perfecto; along with my Yankees Scorecards/Programs from the 60's-70's in those boxes. Here's a small sample of old stuff I've collected along the way; over many games. Notice Joe DiMaggio as the Oakland A's Bench Coach on the scorecard/program- More to follow....in subsequent posts... I didn't know how to keep score in 69; as you will notice... I walked out through the Lobby with Mick; my dad; brother; wife and sons; after this game; and its trophy presentation. Alone with Mick for that 100 foot walk; was a memory of a Lifetime. I never asked him for his autograph; since I already had half a dozen of 'em.
I have a Ton of Old Yearbooks and Photo Albums I collected since I was 7 Years Old Late 70's and 80's not in The Best Condition but it's nice to look at them once in a while.
Can you scan them Lillie?? I'd love to see them regardless of the condition they are in... Or you can mail them to me and I'll scan them for you and then send you the scans on this website and I'll keep the originals how's that sound for you ...
Hank Bauer, one of my all time favorite Yankee Players. Marine Service in WWII. The man was tough as nails, did not want to hear talk of losing, came to play. A regular get down blue collar ball player you could cheer for. When the Yankees traded him to KC for Maris I was as pissed as when Billy Martin was sent there in '57. Number 9 is retired but I always think Bauer and Nettles over Maris. Bauer and Martin would be kicking ass on players like Kay (Pussy Willow) Stanton and Weeping Willow Paxton. They'd be praising LeMahieu to the skies.
What a combo- Bauer and DiMaggio, as Skippers of Finley's Powerhouse A's. Seeing the Orioles and A's, who would combined run the gauntlet as the AL W.S. Contenders and Champs over the next 6 years. Had free agency of not occurred, no telling how long those 2 teams would have dominated. NTM- Our Yanx of the 70's would have looked quite a bit different.... I saw alot of KC A's games in the 60's, and they stunk to high Heaven, although the rookies were up coming, Catfish, Reggie, Vida Blue, Lacheman. Notice T. Larissa was a UT player on t/69 team, who never made a splash as a player.
......Meanwhile, up in Minnesota the Twinkies & Rays are playing overtime.......top of the 18th inning tied 2 - 2. The Rays look to break serve. They have loaded the bases with no outs. And our Yankees are in London, England. It is 12:35 AM Friday.
Just saw the All Star selectees. Amsinger being his usual asinine self saying "America Got It Right" Fact of the matter it is an exhibition and the Fans may vote for whom they wish. I thought the selection and voting process were pretty fair overall. Doesn't matter how it is done some people wiil feel they were "snubbed" Somedays you eat the bear, other days the bear eats you.
Just saw an article on ESPN stating that Kay (Pussy Willow) Stanton will most likely be out until August. Who the fuck cares the team is doing well without him. Now play Judge in Right, Hicks in Center, Call back Frazier for left with Gardner as 4th man.
Thanx Vic, yes tons of memories are about all us old men have left. These aren't even the tip of the iceberg, more like the permafrost on top. I've always bought programs, score cards and year books for every game I've been to. The next morning I buy the sports page for that game. Thus I have boxes and boxes of old newspapers. My walk-in closet hasn't had clothes in it for 20 yrs, to make way for memorabilia. It is 10 ft X 12 ft & 10 ft high. I collected alot of these things to give to my 3 Sons and/or Grandsons. BUT- only 1 Son is a "fair weather take em or leave em" Yankees fan, who has no interest and lives 1 hr from YS. Go figure, He accompanied me to alot of games and memorabilia shows. Guess he burned out. And I have no Grandsons, only Grandaughters. Not a one is interested in MLB, or any sports. My own Grandpa used to say to me, I wish I knew those tobacco cards were going to be worth something because I would have saved them for you. No telling how many Great Hall of Famer tobacco cards he tossed. I wanted to make sure that would never happen here, BUT it has in reverse. I was hoping to get to the back of the closet by now, where all the good Yankee stuff is, i.e. Mantle's "A Day to Remember" Program. And- Porcelain Statues made in the 60's of every Yankee Great amongst many other types of items. Newspapers and old magazines galore from 61 on- Maris 61st HR. Berra Retires and Stengel goes to the Mets. Every Sports page of every World Series game from 61-1980. Every single one of Nolan's 7 No-Hitters and of course the Program, scorecard and Newspaper, including Magazines of Koufax's Perfect Game, September 9th 1965... I also lived down the street from Atlanta Braves Relief Pitcher - Cecil Upshaw in 66-67 and again for 9 months in 69. I gotta ton of Braves memorabilia from him, i.e. Autographed Baseball and Bat of the 69 Team. Upshaw gave me his game glove, cleats, hat and Jersey from the 69 Season. Upshaw and the Braves lost to the Mets in the 69 NLCS. He was a Yankee for one year, 1974. After missing the entire 1970 Season due to damaging his finger on his throwing hand, and 2 surgeries later he was never the same again after that. Prior to 1970 is ERA was under 3.00. After 1978 never got that little again, he was done for..
It took The Rays like 18 Innings to Beat The Twinkies and The Astros got their asses handed to them by The Pirates 10-0.
....^^^^ The top 2 other Teams in the AL Central and AL West went down in flames. The Twinkies are Pretenders. The Ass-tros dangerous but inconsistent. The Ass-tros had a six-game losing streak until they beat the Yankees in the last game of the series Breaking the Yankees 8 game winning streak. Yankee should not be do mandated by those asshole Ass-tros ... It sucks that Paul Molitor was fired. He deserved be at the reins to see the team he helped build leading the very weak pitiful AL Central. Molitor was a Class Act, too bad it was not a Yankee... Twins with duel GM's Antony and Levine, WTF ??? Did the left hand know what the right hand was doing...??? https://sportingsota.com/2018/10/03/minnesota-twins-twins-fired-hometown-hero-paul-molitor-manager/
Best of luck to the American Womens Soccer Team with the USA/France Game going on. The women have some Moxie and have represented out country well.
I watched some of that classic game. France had the ball 61% of the time, vs the USA's 39%. The US girls indeed do have a ton of Moxie. Moxie; the still sale that soft cola drink in the upper New England area. The only soft drink to have a Synonm of numerous courageous traits, types; grit and tenacity...
