Re: Official UConn Huskies Thread! I'm not sure how many UConn fans are on these boards, but I guess it won't hurt to make an official thread for them. Anyways, I know last year was a horrible season. But that's just one year. We were young, inexperienced, and we're bound to get better. Here's a prospect that UConn is definetly looking at:NY City point guard picks 'dream school'Some good quotes on Walker from his high school coach."Yes, with the type of system that UConn has - they like to push to ball and play fast-paced - plus, he's a good defender, so I think he'll do well in that system," Hicks said. "That's why (UConn coach Jim) Calhoun will like him, because he likes his toughness. Kemba is very tough. He'll get on the ball and play good defense for you and he'll push it."Hicks has been watching UConn's guards for a long time."When Connecticut was good, they had the type of guards like Taliek Brown and Marcus Williams," Hicks said. "Those guys are very good at leading a team and Kemba is that type of guard. He can score the ball when he needs to, but he's a very good playmaker. He gets people involved."

Last year wasn't too much of a surprise to me, we had no experience. This year with a year under our belt I think we will do really good and be in the top 25 most of the year. Walker looks like a good prospect with the possibility of being the next Khalid or Taliek (he also has the weird ass first name like both of them did).
Re: Official UConn Huskies Thread! The thing with Walker is, in big game situations, he might want to take over the game. Without first looking at the abilities of his teammates. He won't have enough experience to know to play the other team with your team's talents, not just yours. That's what usually happens with point guards from big time backgrounds like Walker. And the player that I don't see improving this year is Jeff Adrien. I have a feeling that his freshmen postseason performance was just luck. He barely showed how good he was last year, and he was the captain.I went to UConn's game against Coppin State in December. It's the first pro/college game I've ever been to. lol

In 04 and 05 we had Rashad who would nail the shot (Washington game ). You never know, he might be the one we have to go to in the clutch.Really, I just think Jeff isn't a leader or star type player. He needs more weapons around him to perform well. When he is the go to guy all the time he isn't going to put up those numbers. When he is the 2nd or 3rd option he can dominate. He is more of a role player if anything. I think he will do better this year.I also went to the Maui Invitational in 00 after they won it all. That was the year they did horrible and Soloman Jaun (no clue how to spell that) was supposed to be a star there.

So really winning a National Championship doesn't matter because it is in the past? Please. Oh and as for the present, UConn has 14 players in the NBA. Most out of any college.
Re: Official UConn Huskies Thread! Unless it was a game with all of the schools past players(which UCONN would win), the upcoming season has nothing to do with how many championships or tourneys UCONN has been in...its about who is on whos team now...And I already knew they had the most players in the NBA...

I can see in a year or two us being a National Championship contender.

Re: Official UConn Huskies Thread! UConn and Indiana both have better legacies, which is important in college basketball, but not important in determining who is better now.Out of those 4 teams1. Memphis2. Tennessee3. Indiana4. UConnBut Tennessee will still beat Memphis this year...

Because we have a hall of coach in Jim Calhoun who is one of the best recruiters in the game without getting all the HS All Americans, he is also a great teacher of the game. Emeka Okafor went from a potentially solid big man with a good defensive game to a POTY candidate with a solid offensive game and a great defender in the matter of a year. I think this year or next year they will go far in the NCAA tournament because of all the great talent they have and the coaching. most likely next year.
Re: Official UConn Huskies Thread! IU is gonna win the championship, sorry to break it to you guys. Why? College Basketball is a scorers game. And IU is set for that. Eric Gordon, Chris Kramer, D.J. White- that is what is called scoring. Those 3 guys could put up 50 ppg per night themselves together. Factor in the second most important factor in college ball: defense - you've got D.J. White and Eli Holman - both are defensive forces. Uconn and Memphis just have a bunch of pro prospects who are versatile but won't do much damage in college. And Tennessee, they're just not good enough.

They are a very high scoring team. Same with Memphis. Both teams run the court and spread it open with shooters. They can put more points on the board than Indiana. Both teams have great shooters, I mean Chris Lofton, one of the best shooters, if not the best in the NCAA. Lofton can put points up in a heartbeat, inside and outside. Both Tennessee and Memphis went a hell of a lot further than Indiana last season, and they both for the most part have the same rosters. You obviously just don't know what you're talking about.

Memphis is wayyy overhyped - they are just full of versatile athletic players who are coveted by NBA teams for their superb athletic ability in hopes that someday they will get a basketball IQ. Derrek Rose is obviously very good but I just don't think he's gonna be a gamechanger in college, in the NBA someday - yes, he will be. IU has a much better roster than last year - the roster is like 5 times better. Eric Gordon, Eli Holman, two top 5 junior college players (including the best)
Re: Official UConn Huskies Thread! It makes zero sense for you to say he will be a game changer in the NBA, but not college?Really, im not even going to argue with you on this...its pathetic...Youve lost it...we all saw it when you said Artest is more talented that LeBron...
