<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Philadelphia Daily News - The agent for Minnesota Timberwolves star forward <u>Kevin Garnett</u> told ESPN yesterday that Garnett is not interested in playing for the Boston Celtics . ESPN reported that a proposed trade was pulled off the table when Garnett made it clear he did not wish to play in Boston. ESPN, citing sources, said Garnett and <u>Troy Hudson</u> were to headed to Boston in exchange for <u>Al Jefferson</u>, <u>Theo Ratliff</u>, <u>Wally Szczerbiak</u>, <u>Sebastian Telfair</u> and the fifth pick in next Thursday's draft. "The Boston trade isn't happening," agent Andy Miller told ESPN. "If a trade were to happen, that's not a destination that we're interested in pursuing."</div>http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives...deal_to_boston/

Is Garnett aloud to choose where he wants to go play? If he is allowed to pick where he wants to go, that really sucks for Minnesota. They could have gotten a future probably all-star in Jefferson, and they could have both the 5th and 7th picks in the draft. That would definately set them up for the future, and have them looking good. That is one of the better deals they can get.I don't exactly know what team he is wanting to go to, but I don't see what's the problem with Boston. Garnett and Pierce together, in the East could easily get out of the first round, probably all the way to the Conference finals atleast. In Boston he wouldn't have to worry about being the go to guy at the end of games with Pierce there, he would have good young players around him that can help him out.

Minnesota also knows how fiercely loyal he's been to them and reportedly will take into serious consideration where he actually wants to go, which from all reports I've heard is Phoenix.

Technically no he can't refuse or block a trade (only Kobe can do that) but he has some serious leverage in where he goes with his opt out clause next season. He can say that if he is traded to any team he doesn't want to go to (Boston for example) he will exercise that option and that team will lose him after one year which will kill almost any deal because of how much it would cost just to trade for him.He doesn't care if he stays in Minnesota but if he is traded he wants to go Phoenix but who knows if Minnesota will ever back down off of their absurd trade demands. I believe the thread in the celtics forum goes into greater detail about this.

I think KG needs to shut up about wanting to win if he's gonna do this. Heads up KG you're still on a Minnesota team that doesn't want to sign free agents and that wants to overpay sh*tty players and that screwed you for over a decade. You're still on that team and you had a chance to leave. If he goes to Phoenix and Amare is gone and Barbosa is gone what will be the difference for them? Nash will need to take heavier minutes as well as Marion and they are gonna be screwed 5 years from now when Nash is 38, KG is 36 and Marion is 34.And with all the competition in the West how is he ever gonna make the finals?Him and Pierce would just trample over the east for the next 5 years at least. Then once they are slowing down and Jefferson or Green is the leader they can still be part of a good team and possibly be winners. What KG really should of done was tried to pull some weight and get McHale to renegotiate and replace Jefferson with a few future picks or gotten a third team involved. That way Pierce/Garnett/Jefferson could've been Boston's front court and dominated for 5-8 years (at least the last 3 years of that 8 years Jefferson could be the leader while Pierce and Garnett step back a bit but still be part of the team). And KG could have opted out after next season and renegotiated his contract so that better free agents would sign there in the future. But no he's going to go to a team that will be old and depleated in 5 years with no young stars to bridge the gap. (remember in this scenario Amare, Barbosa and next year's draft pick aren't with Phoenix)KG what's wrong with you? You could of come to Boston, teamed up with Pierce and run through the East. Instead you're gonna have to play heavy minutes on a running team that isn't strong enough to last long enough to win a title and need to play 7 game series against teams like San Antonio, Dallas, Utah, Denver, Houston etc.Good luck KG. You have the biggest heart in the NBA but probably one of the smallest brains.

You're dreaming if you think Boston are going to be a better team and have a better chance of winning than Phoenix. If he was to be traded to Boston it would probably include Jefferson, #5, Ratliff and somebody else to make the salaries work. And for the last f*cking time! The Suns not strong enough to last in the west is bullsh**. I hate bringing it up (because I like to look forward not back) but without the suspensions the Suns probably would have beaten the Spurs. They also had every other teams number this season.

You lost with a fresh Amare and a fresh Bell in game 6.Yeah I know we probably won't win a title before the Suns do. We were in freaking last place in the EAST this year. But the road to the finals in the East is less rocky than it is in the West. That's why we would have a better shot at competing right away. And the Phoenix deal is gonna have to involve Amare. Marion says he doesn't want to play for Minnesota. So who do they trade? And yeah the deal would never go through without Jefferson. That's probably one of the reasons KG rejected the idea because it would be him, Pierce and a bunch of young role players. No young stars.Minny wanta Amare and an 08 pick from ATL. That deal won't go through without them.Do you actually think Phoenix is better off with KG/Nash and Marion over Nash/Amare/Marion/Barbosa?How about 5 years from now when they're all 34, 35, 36?

The Suns are not likely to trade Amare though. Your post was having the Suns give away a lot and the Celtics not giving anything away. You then tried to twist it round to make it sound like it would be better for KG's chances of winning to join the Celtics.Phoenix is not better off with KG instead of Amare IMO, however they would still be better than the Celtics if he went there in a trade . A lot better.

Doh..Of course Phoenix would be better than us. But we would be able to get to the finals much easier because as far as I'm concerned..Tim Duncan still hasn't retired and the Spurs and Mavs are just as dangerous as they were last year. And teams like Utah, Houston, Denver are even more dangerous than they were last year. And Portland. And Seattle.Say we did the proposed deal and Jefferson was gone. You're telling me KG/Pierce wouldn't be able to get to the finals in the East?

If we trade Amare we wouldn't trade Barbosa too. Amare has more trade value than KG with his contract and his age so if it comes down to them asking for Amare they will get a big FU. I find this really stupid...Marion ALWAYS is complaining about lack of respect and saying that he can be the #1 guy on another team and now he's saying he doesn't want to go there? If he's the reason a deal like this doesn't go through, he won't have a very pleasant season next year.Yes, if it's a trade with Marion I would trade Barbosa in a heartbeat. He's a very nice scorer, but a point guard without any point guard skills and I doubt he'll develop them for a while. KG-Amare-Nash in the playoffs would be much better than Amare-Nash-Marion-Barbosa. I'd even throw in James Jones or something and the Atlanta + the 24th pick. Just for the couple of great seasons of Amare-KG. But if they can't get a deal done with Marion, there's no way Amare's going. So I'd just have to hope for a Camby trade... :-/And the Suns were very close this year. Garnett is not stupid for choosing us. He's friends with Nash too, but yeah if we have to trade Amare I don't see us winning it next year.

I think Marion is even more stupid for saying no to going to Boston in a 3-way...they do have some nice young talent and even behind Pierce, Marion would be noticed more as the #2...Of course, he shouldn't really have any leverage because if he opts out he would lose a lot of money and no one, besides Isiah, in their right mind would offer him as much as he's getting now.

In my opinion, KG is going no where this season. And if he truly wants out, he'll opt out and sign with whoever he wants to.

Why would phoenix want KG when they have a guy who is younger and is already a much better player with the potential to still improve?I think he's going to end up being stuck on the twolves again and then probably end up as a free agent next year.

Like I said, I'm pretty sure we aren't interested in trading Amare. I'm just hoping for a 3-teamer with Marion going.

Why do the suns need to trade Marion? They are already a weak defense so how will trading their best defensive player help them when they play san antonio next year? It was already seen this year and the previous years that without a great perimeter defender to stop parker/ginobli the suns will not beat the spurs. Trading Marion is just another step back unless you were to get Artest or something for him.

No...since when has Marion stopped anyone or even contained anyone good for more than 1 game? Parker destroyed him. Marion is trash against good teams in the playoffs, well not trash but certainly not all-star worthy. KG is much better and having him would improve our interior D. He can defend Duncan better than Amare can and can play longer than the 20 good minutes Kurt Thomas can. With KG on the floor we also don't worry about Amare getting in foul trouble so he can destroy them on the other end like he usually does. Our interior D will improve, our rebounding will a little bit, and even without Marion, we'd have a better chance to contain guys like Parker and Manu because now we'd have two guys down low who can block shots and that would take away those easy lay-ups. We'd also still have Raja Bell who is our best man-to-man defender (2nd is KT).I'm really not a Marion fan anymore. He's really overrated defensively and has no offensive game in the playoffs. I want him outta here. We'll have a much better chance to win with KG than with him even if we lose Barbs.

In a perfect world where your frontcourt is Amare and KG of course it'd be an upgrade but its not gonna happen. if it did I would be stunned by how stupid kevin mchale could be. Marion is your best defender, I didnt say he was the best defender in the NBA but on a weak defensive team like the suns he is the only person who stands out a bit on the defense. You cant say he cant play defense because of one series, he is an above average defender and Ginobli/Parker burn everyone. They are the champs for a reason.

It's not because of one series. You obviously haven't followed the team much. You put any decent player against him and they have good games. Bell did a pretty good job on Manu for most of the series...Marion really hasn't really shut down anyone in any series. Josh Howard outplayed him, Odom destroyed him...he's our best off-ball defender, but not even our 2nd best man defender. We can put a pretty nice package with Marion to go to the T-Wolves, but Amare is not going anywhere. I only want to get rid of Marion for the right price though. It's not like I just want to give him away. I just want someone who shows up when we need him.

From what ive heard they want Amare AND the atlanta pick. It looks like KG is staying in minnesota. And if Marion isnt the best defender on the suns then who is?
