It doesn't really matter. If KG is hell-bent on playing for PHX, I can definitely see him opting out of his contract after next season and just signing with the Suns, even if it is just for the MLE, LLE or the veteran's minimum. And like POTG said, if he was smart he would have welcomed a trade to the Celtics. It might not be as good of a destination as PHX would be for him, but it is a hell of a lot easier path to the Finals in the East than it would be in the West. But whatever... if he wants to stay in Minnesota and waste another year, that's his problem.
Would this really be a good trade for Boston? I mean KG is 31...and your losing a possible future all star in Al Jefferson, and potentially a very good starter at the 5th pick. You are getting rid Wally, which is good though.KG should have let the trade happen none the less. Boston is better then that hell hole in Minnesota.
I don't agree with ASU's opinion on Marion's D. I actually rate it quite highly. However, There is still a chance the Suns could work a deal without Amare. The Tomberwolves need to work a deal at some point or end up losing him for nothing. Marion, Barbosa and picks could interest them. Maybe Thomas' expiring contract could be used somehow. The Suns won't trade STAT for KG, I just can't see Kerr doing it in his first off-season in charge.

It could've been a nice 3-way deal, but Marion didn't want to go to Boston. :no3: Marion is supposed to be able to guard multiple positions, but besides Cassell, he has been owned by any other player I remember him defending in the playoffs. Raja Bell and Kurt Thomas are both better man-to-man defenders. Marion's steals and blocks puts him at the top, but he really doesn't give us much when we really need him against good teams. Like I said, I wouldn't trade him unless a good deal comes up, but I'd really like a #3 option who can create for themselves offensively and doesn't have to rely on Nash so much....we can put in any player in place of Marion and they'd do just as good against Parker as he did and by just as good I mean just as bad. I'm too harsh on Marion today. I love the guy, but I just hate that rotten bastard so much.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (PrimeTime @ Jun 22 2007, 11:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Why do the suns need to trade Marion? They are already a weak defense so how will trading their best defensive player help them when they play san antonio next year? It was already seen this year and the previous years that without a great perimeter defender to stop parker/ginobli the suns will not beat the spurs. Trading Marion is just another step back unless you were to get Artest or something for him.</div> The Suns want to get under the luxury tax and get something for Marion before he leaves after next season.
I'm glad this didn't go down, because I was hearing Jefferson was going to be involved. At this point in their careers, I'd take Jefferson. He's got nowhere to go but up, and Al is still a kid by NBA standards, while KG can only go down, Al can absolutely continue to get better and dominate. Teaching Jefferson how to be a winner would be easier than teaching KG to be a winner.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (PrimeTime @ Jun 22 2007, 10:53 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Twolves have said over and over they wont trade Garnett without Amare. From what ive heard they want Amare AND the atlanta pick. It looks like KG is staying in minnesota. And if Marion isnt the best defender on the suns then who is?</div>Minnesota (or Kevin McHale) needs to come back to reality. No star player traded under the circumstances that KG would be has ever gotten anyone near half as good as Amare in return. McGrady brought back Steve francis and cuttino mobley, shaq got the Lakers Odom, Butler & Grant, Iverson only managed Andre Miller, Joe Smith and 2 average draft picks so I don't know why they think KG is going to get them a 24 year old franchise big man and a lottery pick. :no3: Ignoring the fact that Amare's trade value is higher then that, there is no possible way the Suns could afford to add on that kind of salary. The 07/08 season salary cap is expected to be around 57 million. Marion & Garnett would combine to make 73% of the salary cap. You add in 12.25 million from Nash and that is 95% of the cap. The entire salary cap taken up by 3 players and you cross the luxury tax line when you add in Barbosa and Bell. Only needing 5 players to cross the luxury tax and they would still need 8 more players to fill out the roster all of which would end up costing twice the amount due to the tax.
