Simons is going to get a chance at this. CJ is the 3rd string PG. So your asking if we have a 4th string PG, no we do not. That's fine, there is no urgent need.
There are many who think Simons is not quite ready for that role. Personally, I disagree with that notion....but that's just me. While Stotts is not generally known to play kiddos much...especially now that the team has well passed a 1st Round exit, coupled with a much higher standard....I think he should roll the dice on this kid!
Why not get some security in case Simons fails in that role? We expect the kid to go from 0 to hero. PG is not easy at all and I have my doubts Simons is gonna be a PG in the future anyway.
If this ends up being the final roster, Stotts won't have much choice whether he likes it or not. Kid will have to play some PG and basically be thrown into the fire. I'm guessing Olshey knows that if he were to go get a veteran PG, that is who Stotts would play.
Well, perhaps because the elephant stepped back into the room once the dust settle from all of Olshey's moves the past couple of days. Dunno, but, nonetheless, it's still a seemingly debatable topic.
At the very least, we need a PG with a good handle, who's smart enough to run plays and puts effort on the defensive end.
Maybe Neil is waiting to see how Simons handles the pressure in Vegas. Thankfully that is only 4 days away. Regardless of who we and if we find to fill that role he has to come cheap.
All? I don’t think we necessarily need one. Whoever they sign would be fourth string, maybe fifth if they like Hezonja with the ball. I think PF and Center are bigger priorities.
I think one of Dame, CJ or Hezonja will be on the court with Simons a large percentage of the time unless it's a blowout.
It's good enough for a larger wing. And he can pass it (as most Euro's can). His Asst/TO ratio is a poor 1:1 so that needs work but he did show signs when given the reins in that short stretch at the end of last year. He does have a bad tendency of jumping up in the air when making a pass at times.
I want a Lin/Frazier type as injury insurance. Can always pick a guy like that up later in the year. Maybe shelvin mack
CJ will be backup PG, with Simons filling in here and there. We've done it before and it wasn't entirely ideal, but it works. If you have a lot of wings around him who can shoot (which we should), and a shooting guard who can create his own offense (which we should in Simons), CJ is less likely to put on blinders and just gun all the time.
It's going to be Herzonja in the ET role doing most of it. That'll be fine. Presumably, the more Ant plays the more comfortable he'll become in that role. I think by the end of the season we'll be a lot stronger and deeper in ballhandlers than we were in 2018-19.
