As much as I'd love to see what Little can do, I don't think Jake is done getting better. 3mil per season max. We should bring him back.
Having his bird rights, there is no hurry as Olshey let's him go out and explore his value and then he can make an informed decision of whether to let him go or match the offer. Nice position to be in.
I think we should rescind Layman and let him go tbh. I know they offered him the QO but that was before Hood committed and Hezonja signed. Now we’re absolutely loaded on the wing and I don’t see Layman as an option at the four. I’d much rather use his roster spot on another big, which would also allow us to leave the 15th spot open, possibly for a buyout guy later in the season.
I can't imagine Jake will get a huge offer anywhere, and in that case - he is coming back. At worst, he is a trade asset - but we have seen in the past that with consistent playing time - he can produce - and this teams feels like it will run a bit more than last year's team - which fit his style.
Layman can be a really good player and is enjoyable to watch, i like his offball game, allways moving and his shot looks so smoth, but for some reason his beautiful shot just doesnt go in often, even last Season he just shot 32% on 3s, if he didn't have that great month he would probably be around 25% or so. And another Problem is his Defense, in the short time he played in the Playoffs opponent team attacked him every time and he did not look good, he just isn't strong enough to defend at the highest stage, maybe a proven Vet could be more useful
Could be the after practice competitions he had with Aminu to see who could put the most arc on their 3 pointers....
I brought this up early last season that he has way to much arch on the ball especially for his height. It does make it tougher to zero in, imo.
If they go banana signing him, sure - but San Antonio is usually pretty smart with how they spend money - which means he is likely coming back.
Look at all the options at SF 1. Hood 2. Bazemore 3. Hezonja 4. Little 5. Trent 6. Hoard (2way) Shit I bet Simons could get a look in certain three guard lineups. Now look at the options at C while Nurk is out 1. Whiteside 2. Collins 3. Skal Skal has no business playing center, he’s not a good rebounder and can’t handle size. His best fit is power forward. He’d only be a small ball option. Collins looks like he’ll be starting at power forward. So if Whiteside gets in foul trouble against a big guy like Jokic, what the fuck do we do? I’d rather just sign another center and let sunshine go, especially since we all know Terry doesn’t trust him.
I have been on the dump Jake bandwagon because I think there are min vets to be had which will help us more. For example, I believe KOQ signed a min contract. I absolutely would rather have KOQ. Edit: also, positional reasons.
if Portland has any inkling Layman is going to accept his QO, they should immediately offer a 1 year deal for 2-3M and if Layman hesitates or wavers, Portland should withdraw the QO Layman on a 3m expiring contract with full-Bird rights is a trade asset, if only as filler. Layman on a QO is a poor trade asset by comparison
Skal averaged 8.8 reb per 36 min, which is better than Collins. He isn’t Nurkic or Whiteside, but he isn’t terrible.
I like to look at contested rebound percentage when trying to judge a players rebounding ability, and Zach hovered around 50% this season while Skals career best is 42% and hovers around 38-40%.
