Depends on the match up. Sure against the 4's that have no desire to bang down low Jake can guard PFs. But Tolliver's listed weight is 35 lbs heavier than Jake.
So maybe they felt they needed a different type of 4 on the roster in addition to the ones they had.

It used to count. It was factored into things a few years ago when we kept stashing Euros (not saying it factored it TPE’s but it did factor into the cap space situation, but admittedly, I don’t claim or pretend to know that much about the cap, just the basics).

And it looks like TBpup is right on this. I was just taking a wild guess based on how they count at some times....

But I can see why you’d blame Dwight, given you wasted a bunch of time on twitter trying to straighten the guy out with your opinions.

So what is your stance? Are we better or not? Or did you post and I need to go back (totally honest question - your response just here isn’t clear).

Dude should explain why it's a $1.8M TPE instead of more, with him being an insider and all. I simply asked him where that number came from and when he didn't give an explanation, I chalked it up to him doing the math wrong, which he's done with stuff in the past.

    Another Great Sign From Neil...

This offseason, and especially this move, shows that Neil learned something from the 2016 fiasco. He is now no longer OVERLY in love with his own draft picks.

He drafted Aminu, and let him walk.
He drafted Layman, and let him walk.

It's great to see this from the man who re-signed his own dudes for way too much $$$ in 2016.

Wasn’t meant as I dig, by the way. I just saw the exchanges back-and-forth the other day on Twitter, and it’s two dudes, for better or worse, just not saying “let’s agree to disagree,” and move on.

He's pretty good but apparently likes living in Europe.

Layman’s contract in today’s NBA is nothing. Apples to oranges. Agree on Aminu.

I kind of figured that's what you've been thinking; I just hope it doesn't go that way.

Wow; didn't realize he got that much bigger. Doesn't look that big on the tapes of his last few games.

don't treat me like an oracle on the CBA....I'm not.

it's just that the 1.8M number makes no kind of sense.

Stotts has already proven he can mesh new players onto the team and be competitive. He did it when we lost 4 of our starters including an all star.

like I said, it counts for unsigned 1st round picks. That's why there were cap-holds for Rudy and Freeland. No cap-holds for 2nd round picks unless there was a change to the CBA i'm not aware of

I think Jaynes is wrong but I'm not certain of that

I'll be honest, I have a cavalier attitude towards mainstream media. One of many reasons is because of the types to hear from a source that it's only a $1.8M TPE and not ask for an explanation why (either because they doesn't have the knowledge to ask why or they don't care enough to give Blazer fans an explanation for it)… Doesn't seem like they're fully doing their job in that case.

I certainly didn't enjoy watching Portland give up 21 offensive rebounds in a quarter(or was it a half? idr) in a playoff game.
Jake Layman at the 4 won't help with this.

No cap hold on 2nd rounders, you are correct. Cap holds for 1st rounders only. I don't know what Jaynes said, but if there's a discrepency in CBA knowledge, it's likely on his end.

    We're WAY better.

The Blazers strategy is based on 2 imperatives:
    1) Create an atmosphere of SUPPORT - emotional and otherwise.
    2) Get SHOOTERs and teach them to play basketball.

The basic idea for #1 is Players who are mediocre elsewhere thrive here. That's how we get a competitive advantage.
The basic idea for #2 is to give the defense no quarter.

Imagine a team with 5 players who are all great shooters - let's call them Kyle Korvers.
Trap or double team them, they swing the ball to an open Kyle Korver.
Man2man defense? They do double off-ball screens or some other crazy action. A Kyle Korver will get open.

How to do this in practice?
    No problem, we have..
    ballhandling Kyle Korvers,
    rebounding Kyle Korvers,
    screening Kyle Korvers,
    defender Kyle Korvers...

So, why all of the turnover? Because outside of Biebs and Curry, all of them were bad to horrible Kyle Korvers.

    Who did we get?
A Kyle Korver who can guard PFs (z3)
A Kyle Korver who can defend (Bazemore)
A Kyle Korver who can simply shoot over half the league (Hood)
A Kyle Korver who is superathletic and can do a little of everything (Little, he'll be a very good shooter, but not right away)
A Kyle Korver ball handler (Super Mario)

That's because Evan Turner was at the 4. Layman is a better option than Turner. Layman rebounded as well as Tolliver last year.
