This is the best news I heard all day. No more watching him get abused on defense.

Am I correct in saying that at this very moment, we have 6.....SIX...... players on our roster that were with us on opening night? That's some turnover fo yo ass!

And it's crazy that so much turnover is happening after a trip to the WCF instead of after we got swept by the Pelicans. I think NO realized that our current roster as constructed last year was at best a WCF team. To not get swept by the Warriors again he had to make some major changes. Hopefully it pays off--we shall see.

Not sure how badly Olshey wanted to keep him, since he went out and got so many guys who can play his position.

12 mill for layman after tax. Sucks but oh well. That contract is actually very tradable...

And that right there would guarantee the Blazers don't repeat as SL champs. Damn it!

I'm more focused on who they kept.

    DAME
    CJ
    NURKIC
    COLLINS
    HOOD
    SIMONS

The rest are players who, while they may or may not be that much better than who is leaving (I think they are incrementally better overall), IMO, they FIT much better with what the Blazers do and how teams can defend Dame.

I think when Little fell to 25 the future of Jake was murky at best, wasn’t Little Neil’s 12th overall player?

    :dunno:
Possibility A) Stotts had no faith in him and wanted him gone.
Possibility B) Olshey didn't want him blocking Little from getting some game experience.
Possibility C) Layman didn't want to be stuck between 2 superior vets and a highly touted rookie. Since they could have just dumped him and they instead traded him for nothing, I'm guessing they were doing him a favor.

There is always the possibility that Layman will get to play more and look better with the TWolves. He was never going to be a key rotation guy here, so good luck to him.

Yes, something like that. Their trade plans started changing around #20. A couple of guys at the Draft party have great connections and their phones started beeping around that time. Portland hadn't planned on Little being available. Hadn't brought him in, hadn't interviewed him and had only scouted him briefly when they were looking at other players. As it because obvious that Little might fall to them, the quickly pivoted (to their credit) and decided they would take Little regardless of the little background they had on him.

Neil said as much in his press conference after the Draft. I'd texted this to @BonesJones and it was fun to hear Olshey repeat it almost verbatim.

I'll take, "Things you've heard from both the human females you've tried to have sex with" for $1,000 Alex.

If Tolliver was included, he would be a S&T which would hard-cap the Blazers.

Im tginking it was a math error and the reports are incorrect

Thats not saying much... I'm not too happy with the Tolliver signing. I think there were better options available

I like him as a veteran presence but wouldn't have been my first choice. However, with Jake's roster spot now empty, I believe they will get an actual player over 6'9".

While Layman’s contract is fairly small, you look the market with veterans who can pretty clearly contribute getting the minimum/2-3M deals and add the daft that with the luxury tax his contract would count as pretty much double what he’s making...it didn’t make sense to keep a player who’s production is easily replaced. Give that money to another bit to help our lack of depth.

Only this forum would complain about the loss of a 12th man...give those few minutes to Little who has FAR more potential then Jake ever will and we’ll be better off for it.
