I think Whiteside just got depressed in Miami the way he thought he was not get his just dues. I seen him in Highlights beginning his contract and up to last year. The effort wasn't there last year but he had some good games last year but he also stood and look alot when opposite going to the rim. Now he play good against us we couldn't keep off the offensive boards.
I honestly don't know how anyone can be unhappy with the Whiteside trade. We dealt two underperforming guys on horrible contracts for a legit starting center to step in until Nurk comes back. I fail to see any downside whatsoever. And Kanter is not a reason because if we had signed Kanter, we would not have Hood. I would take Whiteside/Hood over Harkless/Leonard/Kanter.
honestly, looking at those two sets of options, side by side, I'm not sure which is better generically. If Portland gets the best Whiteside and the best Hood, then yeah, those two, quite easily. I'm not sure how realistic it is to expect that. but I do believe there comes a time when significant change is good for a team...for a core. Change of habits and patterns can create renewal. I think Portland was well past due for significant changes
People keep saying "if Hassan is motivated" but if we're lead to believe he wasn't last season in Miami, he was still pretty fucking good. That alone would be an upgrade to Enes Kanter to be honest. Hassan > Kanter. Our defense is going to be so much better.
This was on the Blazer's Facebook page. My goodness....some of those blocks he just grabs out of the air with one hand.
I'm gonna have to go dig through the old threads. I wanted us to get him SO BAD, before he signed with Miami. Please, please, please let him get back to how he used to be!!!
Exactly. I'd say more of a pre-Blazer Theo. Like TBpup said- the grabs out of the air (instead of hitting it into the stands) are awesome. Smart playing....
Hows the shade? The bright side is Moe and ML get a chance to restart somewhere else. I think ML needed that and so do most Blazer fans. Hassan is a proven player who can contribute a lot especially defensively and rebounding while Nurk heals up. I dont know what were gonna get from Whiteside but I dont really see a down side to bringing him in.
We did not fix the problem that has made it impossible for the Blazers in the playoff every year. Double team Dame while everyone else watches, and the Blazers are done. Whiteside ain't going to fix that very salient problem, he can't block enough shots, nor get enough rebounds when they play a team smart enough to know how to stop the Blazers. It happens every year. It takes a different style of play to change this. Like a high post center that can knock down the shot and feed the other three in motion to make the double team unwise. That ain't Whiteside.
I think we are gonna have to bank on Simons, Baze, and Hezonja to be better than Aminu, Harkless, and Curry on offense. That will help the trap a lot. Defense may take a dip but that’s worth the extra space Dame is gonna get if all goes to plan.
No but he fixes them getting trounced on the boards vs GS and a few games vs Denver too. ML and Moe werent the answer to that problem either. Bazemore, Hood, might be if they can shoot well? and put the ball on the floor.
